1 solo artist from the 80's that never seems to get mentioned when there's talk of 80's music today

Exactly...Lionel is a legend and a musical genius but even though he made beige music in the mid 80s he's seems to get unfairly criticized/overlooked because of Brenda punkin him. So they take the worst of his music, his mid 80s image, the azz beating and use it against him.
My pops was legit heated when Lionel dropped dancing on the ceiling:mjlol:

When he came back years later around 91 or so with Do It to Me though Pops was :myman:

Powerful than thread. Lionel also had country music on lock. Def in discussion for most versatile pen game of all time. Dude was even giving Kenny Rogers some fire.

debarge is so underrated it ain't even funny. so many hip hop songs have sampled from the debarge's catalog of classic of songs. bobby (r.i.p.) who was apart of the group switch, bunny (great songwriter), el (extremely talented songwriter), james (great singer). chico too. all of them brothers and sister are talented as hell

people don't write ballads like this anymore, let alone songs like this anymore. el is an amazin' artist. this is timeless :ohlawd:

i love el's cover of marvin gaye's "after the dance" :lawd:

can't forget about el's interlude on quik's album. not if this ain't smooth, i don't know what is :damn:

chico's "iggin' me" was my shyt back in the 90's. he had nia long in the music video too :ohlawd:

Lionel, aside from Michael Jackson, was the biggest male star of the 80's. And that's not even a stretch.

I'm really amazed that he didn't continue working into the 90's. But I think he was just completely burned out by all the fame.

Most underrated solo song he had. An uptempo about telling a girl to kick rocks. :banderas: This screams Thriller era

well by the late 80's into the early 90's he was carin' for his father who was sick so i'm sure his mind wasn't nearly as focused on the music as it had once been too

i liked all of his pop shyt too :manny:, still do (running with the night :wow:). me and pops disagreed on that, but i understood though, even more once i got older.

i legit thought Chico had next, junior/senior of high school :ehh:

i've always thought that El/Four Play joint is ione of the few cases where a remake MIGHT be better than the original and i'm a Marvin stan to the tee. Patty Labelle was in the cut with the guest vocals:myman:

perhaps. I just remember him talking about how overwhelming fame was during the 80s and how some of his other friends didnt make it.

that 80's fame was on another level compared to now

If you said El Debarge you might have a better argument.

After MJ and Prince, Lionel Richie ran that whole damn decade (the 80s)
