He started completely making beige pop music post Can't Slow Down.

Him and Smokey are paid beyond belief. Heard dude gets a $400,000 check a month for Brickhouse.

his sound definitely changed post commodores but i wouldn't say "he started completely making beige pop music post can't slow down"

keyword there, completely

songs like "love will find a way" and "se la" say otherwise. like "se la", "dancin' on the ceilin' even has a bit of reggae feel to it

Well Love Will Find A Way is off Can't Slow Down so I wasn't speaking on that classic(that Adult Contemporary bassline :ohlawd:)...moms used to bump that in the ride. Dancing on the Ceiling is pure trash. He was trying to duplicate Can't Slow Down success. Besides MJ, Lionel was winning all those American Music Awards and Grammys. He was never the same after the height of that 83/84 success.

you don't fukk with dancing on the ceiling at all?! :damn:

title track (dancing on the ceiling)
say you, say me
don't stop
love will conquer all
se le
night train

as for him never bein' the same after the can't slow dance success, it's almost impossible for someone to duplicate success like that. there a valleys and peaks with success. for example, after prince did purple rain he came right back around the world in a day (different sound than pr), which i'm sure was a conscious effort on his part to 1. challenge himself as an artist and listeners and 2. to just completely move forward with music and not look back.

all an artist can do is move forward and continue to just try to make great music :yeshrug:

That's why Prince didn't even try. Granted Lionel was out of his prime but damn that was some bland music. Especially with Hip Hop on R&B's azz. It's like when LL and Marley tried to duplicate Around The Way Girl with Stand By Your Man:scusthov:.

lol, i hear what you sayin

both hip hop and new jack swing that was startin' to kick ass back then. by the late 80's, teddy riley had everybody goin' "yup yup" with new jack swing

yeah, you could definitely tell ll and marley were tryin' to go for "around the way girl" part 2 with "stand by your man", even though "stand by your man" was a new jack swing song, it was still an echo back to "around the way girl". just not great like it

Exactly...Lionel is a legend and a musical genius but even though he made beige music in the mid 80s he's seems to get unfairly criticized/overlooked because of Brenda punkin him. So they take the worst of his music, his mid 80s image, the azz beating and use it against him.

yeah, at the end day lionel is one of the greatest songwriters of all time and every legend and or musical genius has a "weak" period of music. a period where the music didn't quite connect to the audience like it did before. so it is what it is :yeshrug:
