I still remember Callum getting walked down by Canelo. He had a size and reach advantage yet he was fighting scared :aicmon:
thats what soured me on callum smith...has the tools but his heart is where i question him...the ryder fight was an eye opener but that canelo fight was a disgrace

Haha.

Joe said ‘fukk it’ basically from the get go, swung wild and got sliced to bits.

I'm so confused about Fighter's gameplan of choosing to go toe to toe with Beterbiev. Joe Smith was literally fight like a crash test dummy with no plan in that fight

Smith prolly decided to try and get him outta there after realising the power and endurance of Beterbiev (his main strengths) would be too much over 12 rounds (and potentially career ending.)

At 175 anyone can get it if you go for it and land effectively, tremendous velocity at that weight class at the top level, actually at any level tbh.

Fight fire with fire.

Donaire tried the same thing in the Inoue rematch.

Trying and doing are different however, but it’s not always a bad plan given circumstances/percentages, and takes some cojones.

And those were idiotic gameplans

I'm the greatest, something like Ali in his prime

Well it's not like Smith is a skilled boxer. He's a slugger. Although stupid, his best chance was to land a hail Mary shot and hope it would be enough to put Beterbiev down.

To be fair he was never going to outbox Beterbiev
I remember a lot of ppl liked Joe Smith's chances before that fight saying Beterbiev is "chinny" and Smith has improved lately so he might knock him out in early rounds
Then when he actually tried to start shyt in the early rounds and we seen how it went

Hindsight is 20/20, plus like others said, you gotta know your limitations sometimes, Smith is a wood chopper (literally), not an Usyk or a Bivol. You work to not just your strengths, but also how the camp leading up to the fight went sometimes, or even the previous fight.

If the preparation was affected, be it injury, life drama, mental fatigue, waning self belief, bad set of sparring partners etc, then it all makes a difference.

That’s why fights often get delayed due to ‘injury’ ;).
