I was able to listen to this a lil sooner than I expected.
couple of thoughts (I had read all the comments here & @jbtv.com before I started listening to the album so I had seen all the comments/opinions from "trash" to "dope", so I really didn't know what to expect)
negative:
-Joe should've had a verse on "Our House"
-Busta Rhymes damn near ruined "Coffin" with his wack ass hook
-Throw That is still wack, I'll probably never listen to that again
-Why put Park It Sideways on the album when it's not even a single? Easily their 2nd weakest song, makes Throw It Away almost sound good
-Royce still has the first verse on really many songs, just like on the first album. I wonder why they didn't change that
- Bonus songs The Other Side & Place to Be are better than Throw That & Park It Sideways, why those ain't on the album?
- Throw It Away/Throw That/Park It Sideways weren't really even needed since those are not good single material so they really do nothing for the album commercially, only ruin the listening experience
-Get Up instrumental is really loud...
-They really had weird single choices after My Life... (=Throw That/Throw It Away) considering there was better single material on the album..
All that being said.. the positive:
-I don't really have problems with most of the production... Boi1da was the MVP of the album as far as production goes (Goodbye/Our Way (Outro))
-Both Skylar Grey/Alex Da Kid songs were surprisingly good, especially Rescue Me where Joe & Crooked both had probably top 5 verses on the album (Joe still should've had a verse on Our House though)
- Also, Rescue Me is the type of "commercial" song which I expected to hear from them, they better use that as the next single, they all did their thing on that
-Crooked was impressive as hell damn near all the time
there's more things I need to comment on too but I can't remember everything right now..
So, after one listen (which is usually way too early for me to tell the actual rating).... I'm gonna say this is 3.5-3.75-ish outta 5. Which is disappointing to me... not nearly as horrible as some of yall said but something (like 2 more dope songs) is missing.
Oh I gotta say this post was on point...
I understand why they tried to go mainstream. Making a underground themed album would've been a waste of time for them, they could've just stayed with Koch if they were gonna do that.
