I don't get how they keep shooting themselves in the foot with booking like this. It's not even like they're being asked to shock the world. Just do things logically to progress the stories.
It's seriously starting to look like this...
Simple statement about AEW booking:
They spend so much time thinking about if they can, they never consider if they should.
Almost every strange decision AEW has made, and many of those matches that shot for the moon and had a handful of A++ spots but by the next week you couldn't remember who won... they all fall into that singular problem. Awesome Fenix and Nick Jackson spots during tag matches, meanwhile if they'd literally just gone for a fukking cover they would have won. It's entertaining for what it is, but it
cannot coexist with other matches on the show that are about storytelling and depend on rules and alignment and storytelling over a long period of time. Either I stop believing in the pathos of a Cody match, or I start nitpicking a Kenny Omega match, because the show is tonally all over the place,
constantly.
They could have the Cage/Moxley match just one week after a 2-week-long special event show... so they did. And this is the match we got.
Booking reeking of desperation. It isn't necessarily any better over on USA considering NXT booking is very clearly being at least vaguely directed by a desire to appear more woke than the company has ever shown any proof of being. But damn... these last couple months have been rough in terms of whoever is handling AEW storylines. It's just so... uncompelling.
