There are so many subtle things NJPW does so much better than the E and other feds I’m starting to notice that it’s crazy

Like I love in the tag matches how when someone goes to the pin, their partner actually tries to stop, block, and hold guys from getting the pin.

I used to wonder why no one does that more, especially in the E with all the angles and cameras filming everything.

I’m too many matches you literally see a guy on the outside “fake injured” staring at his teammate getting pinned and not coming to help.

Not picking specifically on them, but being they have the most money and cameras..... they just show so much vs companies that only have like 1 or 2 cams

So just chat me up my NJPW OGs.

Ibushi seems to have everything you want in a top star.

The look, the skill set, the following, etc.

What about him is keeping him from being as big if not bigger than Okada and Naito?

Why isn’t he or hasn’t been IWGP HW champ level?

Like I don’t get what’s missing

Martha
He voluntarily left the company as his star was starting to peak. Wanted to do his own thing.

Then he came back wearing a mask.

He has only been back in his normal form for like a year now. Would probably already be a G1 champion if he didn't leave

Wearing a mask?:ohhh:

What happened? Did he have like a mask vs hair match and lose or something?:dwillhuh:

Wait? I didn’t know Japanese wrestling does that?:dwillhuh:

I thought they only did that in Mexico :jbhmm:

Ibushi is also a top level draw.

Why he hasn't gotten a title run in New Japan has only been explained as the company not wanting to give that kind of push to someone that goes by the beat of his own drum and can leave to do his own thing at a moment's notice, leaving the time and push used to elevate the guy got to "waste". I have a very hard time believing that theory, but even if that were to be true, is a very dumb way of looking at things. Not taking advantage of a guy like him while he's at his peak is a missed opportunity to draw more money, make your product more interesting and the chance to create more stars. Even if Kota were to leave once his contract expires, NJ could take full advantage of the time he's with them and make as much money as possible. They have bent over backwards to give Ibushi a special treatment, the fact that giving him a belt is "out of bounds" is baffling to me.

Now, he will get a BIG Tokyo Dome match against Kenny Omega, either this coming January or 2020, he'll probably get a title run too if that match is for the IWGP title, but that doesn't take away the fact that refusing to give him the ball for so long has been a mistake.

If you want a little more backstory, over the years Kota has shown to be one of the smartest people in wrestling. He does what he wants, works wherever he wants, whenever he wants and gets paid top money to do so. When he was a Junior Heavyweight that worked for DDT (his home promotion), New Japan gave him unique an special treatment, he was the most promoted and protected "outsider" the company had for years, all because they wanted to lure him to work for them full time, to the point they even let NJPW top wrestlers work big DDT shows to help them draw big crowds. Japanese wrestlers are VERY loyal, so even though DDT was a much smaller company, Ibushi stayed loyal to them up until 2016 when he decided to become a full time free lancer, leaving both NJ and DDT out to dry. But even then, he quickly went back to New Japan and was given a Tiger Mask gimmick - when the anime made a return - and was put in big matches right away. Once he was back as"Kota Ibushi" for last year's G-1, he's been back to being an uppermidcarder.

He voluntarily left the company as his star was starting to peak. Wanted to do his own thing.

Then he came back wearing a mask.

I don't see Ibushi winning the G-1 in 16' or 17' even if he had stayed. He would've probably gotten at least an IC title run by now though. I still can't believe he didn't win that belt last year when he faced Tanahashi and sold out Osaka with the quickness :smh:

Breh that's not something exclusive to New Japan, like, at all. Every puro promotion does it and in the indys you can see it regularly.

The WWE has a very weird non written rule were a team can only interfere 3 times per match, and they mostly save it for big tag matches.

WWE's tag thing is a hold over from like...the 50s/60s when teams would get disqualified for too many pin breaks. I don't think any team has actually been DQ'd since for excessive breaks since the late 70s or early 80s, but they still run matches by the same logic....unless New Day or Usos need to save a show :mjlol:

NO

I meant specifically like in the FINAL PIN when the partner outside the ring is actively trying to get in and the other inactive partner is holding his leg or hooking his neck or just doing something to prevent them from making the save.

I'm not talking about the typical "save" that happens throughout the watch.

I havent seen that happen in too many other places.

In the E, depending on the circumstance, most case they guys do the "laid out" thing on the floor or edge of the mat. Or sometimes they just kneel outside the ring and the angle is where you clearly see them just looking at their partner get pinned with nothing stopping them from going to help out.
