the west has severely exploited african countries economically and politically, thats no secret. it was economic imperialism wrapped in diplomacy and philanthropy. when the west got africa deep in debt the consequence was western nations started dictating the public policy of the african nations. after that it was a wrap, and these african countries essentially became "colonies" of the western powers.
china is a little more subtle with their approach... a little more into development, infrastructure, training local workers, etc., but that's only so they can bleed africa slow. thats the biggest mistake the west made in their imperialistic conquests of africa-- they destroyed the social fabric so much with their economic conquests that they almost killed the golden goose. china is way more disciplined with their approach and are obviously in it for the long term exploitation.
but ultimately african countries need to start producing their own goods and increase trade internally amongst each other, it's really as simple as that.
