Back in the day she would have probably in a FBA star such as Eddie Murphy's wife/
What happened to the FBA stars In Hollywood.
Congrats to her though.
Black Hollywood seems less cohesive and "got your back" than it did in the 80s and 90s. It just seems like they will do social stuff but as far as pairing, elevating each other, and collaborating, it just doesn't seem as common as back then. Maybe I am getting old. Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan as well as Issa Rae and some of her talent seem the glaring exceptions. Tyler Perry has done all this stuff but how many big stars has he made?
On the other hand, from the 40s-70s a lot of FBA stars were hard on the swirl like they are now, especially the mixed ones. The 80s-00s when Black stars, including mixed Black stars (Halle Berry, Salli Richardson, Boris Kodjoe, etc.), collaborated, helped each other, and largely married within the Black community seem to have been weakening. Also, when your goal is in part to have a Black following and audience (as people like Eddie, Denzel, and others still wanted at their peak) you act differently compared to when you are trying to make yourself as mainstream friendly as possible.
Eddie Murphy was at his peak when he did Coming to America, Harlem Nights, and Boomerang as was Denzel when he did Malcolm X. A lot of Black actors/actresses, especially the mixed or foreign (Zoe Saldana *cough*) ones, seem fine to use Black films as a come up but then run far away once the fame is secured and only pine for mainstream roles. I can't knock the desire to be at the top but Black audiences and approval ain't their priority.
