Why is it such a big deal

1. A physician is in a position of power over a patient. This makes consent a much murkier issue than between two peers. Especially when that physician reports to your employer and could, hypothetically, have you benched.

2. A physician sleeping with a patient could, contrariwise, have his own judgement manipulatedand become a vending machine for painkillers and assorted other goodies. (Lest we forget, Jillian Hall had a painkiller problem coming out of the WWE.)

3. The sexual relationship between doctor and patient interferes with the frank, professional communication a doctor needs to have with someone in his care.

If I were a particularly vindictive individual who had crossed paths with the good doctor recently, and been forced to spend a bunch of money due to a frivolous lawsuit he'd brought - I would absolutely sue for my legal fees, right around the time said doctor gets fired and has to defend himself from the medical board.
