Don't want to derail the thread so this is my only post on this:
It's in one of the making of books, it's pretty well known that by the time of Jedi George kind of wanted to be done with it. He let Richard do his thing but apparently he was so hands on with the Jedi scenes (Luke/Yoda + Throne Room) that Richard told him he could do some of it himself.
Apparently everything from Luke grabbing his saber to the Emperor dying is George. Everything up until that + Luke dragging Vader away etc is Richard.
I'll see if I can find the book and scan those pages.
Marquand was never critical of Lucas - “George was very good because throughout he would say, ‘Hey, you’re the director,’ shrug and walk away” - but others saw a more fractured relationship. “[Marquand] was intimidated by George,” said production designer Norman Reynolds. “What added to the tension was the fact that Empire had gone over budget and over schedule, and George was determined that the third one would not. So he was on set all the time and whatever Richard did, he had to run it by George
I know folks shyt on TPM, but that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan vs Maul duel was . My favorite part is at :28. Maul does the handless cartwheel and uses the force to get that debris out his way while Obi-Wan is walking towards him twirling his lightsaber like .
Vader seeing Luke with his own eyes
"Now go my son... leave me."
"No, you're coming with me. I won't leave you here. I've got to save you!"
"You already have Luke .You were right...You were right about me... Tell your sister... you were right...."
That scene was so powerful. And John Williams came through with a brilliant stroke of genius and had the Imperial March play sad, slow and softly as Anakin died .
Obi-Wan vs Anakin in Episode III
Luke vs Darth Vader in RoTJ
Lando blowing up the power core in ROTJ
Yoda vs Sidious in Episode III
Ewoks battle scene in RoTJ
Episode III might have the piffest opening to a movie ever, those drums pounding and that total scene of desperate mayhem only for George to focus on Anakin /Obi-Wan swagging.
MACE the GOAT making short work of Jango. This symbolizes how fukked the Jedi were by Palpatine's/Dooku's plan. Mace and Jango are put in a situation where one has to kill the other. Only for Jango's clones to come in and save Mace (if Jango would've killed him, the Clones would've come after Jango )
Luke and the Twin Suns. This is extra ill on a 1-7 viewing order as we know that Anakin had the same dreams, and we know how that ended.
Maul chilling in cut. Had a whole squad of dudes WITH GUNS going "yeah...we'll take the long route "
