1997. The Attitude Era started that year and WCW was at it's peak and beating WWE in the ratings even before Goldberg came. And ECW were do their thing as well. But I think 1998 was an awesome year for wrestling as well.

But really the period between 1997-2000 (2000 mostly for WWE really) were the GOAT wrestling years.

1997

The WWE had Bret, Owen, Austin, HBK, Undertaker, Foley, Vader, Bulldog, Kane, and so many others on their roster. Vince McMahon wasn't the focus, Austin was still a bad ass that didn't excessively pander to the fans. The Mankind gimmick was still fresh and he didn't become a goofball. Had classics like Bret vs Austin at Wrestlemania 13, the 10 man tag at Canadian Stampede, Bret vs Undertaker at Summerslam and One Night Only, HBK vs Undertaker HIAC. I'm really shocked that Raw didn't get a few wins in 1997.

WCW was still going strong with the NWO angle. Sting's crow gimmick was still intriguing, the cruiserweights were impressive, DDP vs Savage was classic.

I've been reliving my adolescence with the network watching Raw and Nitro in 1997. Good times. :mjcry:

2000.

  • Rock gets to be the top face with Austin out and passes with flying colours.
  • Triple H finally gets over as the lead heel and is great at it.
  • Kurt Angle took the year by storm as a rookie.
  • Hardys vs. Edge and Christian vs. Dudleys revitalize the tag team division with Too Cool and APA also making credible contributions.
  • The Radicalz come over.
  • Undertaker comes back with a more realistic gimmick for the time period and kicks ass.
  • Rikishi gets over as a dancing fat guy and it's so ridiculous but fun to watch.
  • Trish Stratus arrives :shaq:
  • Chris Jericho gets some upper midcard/part time main event shine after not being able to in WCW.
  • Crash Holly and his 24/7 Hardcore Championship reign was just fun and entertaining to watch.
  • Steve Blackman whoops ass when it's his turn to reign supreme in the Hardcore Division.
