Thank you. It's not even about young vs old, it's about reality. People blow up off memes and videos filmed in their back yard nowadays and ol boy is talking about "well, after you got signed it was easier back then".

It's a graph of the # of platinum hip-hop albums by year.

You'll notice that there's a big drop off starting in 2006.


Any thoughts or insight as to what's changed in that last decade..?

We have to assume the quality of hip-hop has gone down right? Dudes just aren't going platinum because their music isn't touching the people the same way right? Different quality?

Major labels faking numbers should he nothing knew. Apparently they used to buy their own albums and stockpile them in warehouses. That's just what I hear so I don't know if it's true. But you really have everything to gain by faking your numbers.
