I can understand where Cade coming from 87 Lakers is still the best team I ever saw,

I still have Kareem and Magic as my personal 1A/1B all time (i concede the argument for Jordan over Magic but not Kareem all things considered)

Having said that, and being well knowledgeable of the NBA before Jordan took over in the late 80s-90s, naw LeBron don't have an argument over Jordan let alone Kareem, Wilt, or Russell...

I saw 85% of Kobe's career, pretty much all of the moments and performances of when he was really Kobe, he doesn't register that high to me. And I was a Day One Stan...

I only saw Wizards Jordan but I'm a historian, I love the sport. I came up in the era where we were all told to believe Mike was better than anyone before him or anyone who would come, from a generation of kids who most of us never saw more than a couple years of second 3peat Mike, but we all supposed to believe he the GOAT...

I'm in my early 30s, anybody born after 1985 didn't see more than a couple years if Bulls Mike, tops. But many heads my age and even younger will blindly swear by him being the GOAT....

LeBron is the greatest player I've ever seen, by a couple miles. It's not even close. Historically, as I've aged and learned more about the game, it's pretty clear he and Mike stand on equal footing above anyone ever, by any impact measurables. Who one prefers is largely a matter if choice but I see nothing that tells me Mike was a better player, and I've listened and looked for years, and heard all the arguments to why I should think Mike is better...

They are equally great, a cut above anyone else, they just had two different careers in two different eras of ball that shaped perception of them differently...

Kobe was literally never in my goats I’m surprised to see so many people with him so high. I do have him in the top 10.

Bro I know you're older than me; I was born in '89. So you're not tripping...

Kobe as a GOAT candidate didn't really pick up steam until late in his career and it coincided with Bron realizing his potential on a championship level, this pro-Kobe board isn't gonna admit this fact...

Nobody was calling Kobe Bryant the greatest player of all time after any of his 5 rings. Maybe diehard Stans but in the grand scheme of things those people are a minority. He wasnt in that conversation. One of the All-Time greats, yes. He was always very much respected and lauded for who he was and what he did, but he wasnt in no GOAT conversations...

Add in his level of extreme popularity with kids my age who grew up on him, who took over The League while he was aging, and peers of his era started venturing into analysts and podcasts, the Kobe as "GOAT" thing took on a new life...

We saw his career. It was a great one and he was a great player. Objectively, he has no serious argument for greatest player ever, not even a close one...

But you're older than me, you tell me am I tripping and when you started hearing all the Kobe is the greatest ever shyt...

Kobe is the most polarizing player when it comes to these debates. You will see people have him as #1 to outside of the top ten and everything in between. Kobe also has the biggest gap from where his peers see him versus where the general media sees him, and biggest gap of “eye test” fans versus numbers only fans. Iverson and Westbrook are in the same category, just at lower numbers when it comes to where they’re generally ranked.
