that quote to me explains what happened with rap music and why i became ambivalent. i still like stuff but the critics made me lose hope. what happened is that they tried to ghettoise intelligent rap, called it "conscious" and made it unsexy. that right there was horrible. and as we can see with the biggest relevant rappers today and how pitchfork and complex suck off certain lowest common denominator rap.
No doubt, I feel you. That's the thing it's a systematic plan, that's why you hear all the bullshyt clichés, about trying to kick knowledge, irrelevant, rappity rap, lyrical miracle and all this BULLshyt. It's like you are trying to discredit dopeness, skill or content, YES we can be critical of dudes who aren't doing it right or are psedo intellectual but there's a lot of credible lyrical substance filled artists. The average dumb rap fan doesn't even realize how they'e being used as a tool and a puppet. They will say shyt like conspiracy theory or hater or any of this bullshyt when it's factual information. The artists themselves have said the pressure they have been put under to make certain types of records. I know for a fact myself a lot of things about major labels, as like a fact, it's not a debate because I've seen and heard the shyt. I KNOW artists that have been on majors and pushed certain ways. There's nuff stories of this bullshyt, just ask Saigon. So people sell out for those 30 extra pieces of silver, that they don't need cause we can be comfortable without selling out. It's still there the real music but we got to start talking about it, making threads about the real shyt on here, supporting it, financially, word of mouth, in every way IF we want to make a difference. I know I do cause it matters to me and I'm real about it. And exactly it's all about trends and what's pop when Hip Hop origin is COUNTER culture not following the mainstream, the mainstream hated on Hip Hop. Hip Hop is anti establishment (if it's corrupt) not endorsing it, cruel capitalism wasn't Hip Hop's essence at all, even though there's entrepreneurial elements and aspects to the culture, very much so, but it's about collective unity not greed and ruthlessness. But for real, that's exactly it, they deliberately try to outcast it and make people flock to the lowest common denominator to make people see Hip Hop and black people AS that even it isn't true of both.
