the device most likely comes from eastern europe... they was using similar shyt in france sold to them by russsians... it started out as a huge box that weighed hundreds of pounds and then eventually became a small box that was handled. At first it could reprogram any car computers smart key and have it work on any vehicle as long as it was slightly newer. They used to swipe cars with it and sell it to dudes who pulled smash and grabs. or transported drugs. Now I'm guessing this is the newest iteration of the device... shyt like this never used to be popular in the us ...mostly just europe.

It was likely aftermarket car electronics (radio, DVD player, screens, amps, etc.)....dude had a fukking camera watching the outside of his whilst it is parked, he's clearly into that stuff

I think so far cars that use keyless entry seem to be most at risk.

Yea, I didn't read everything either, the passive entry theory seemed to be getting the most credence.
But now that I think about it, if all the cars had passive entry I don't see how law enforcement could be so mystified....not that many cars have passive entry.
