Yo Shohei, I'm really happy for you. Imma let you finish...but Aaron Judge had one of the greatest seasons of all time.

amazing numbers for both. playoff time now.

also people talk about mlb marketing of the players. maybe the players themselves just dont want to do the commercials
i mean its not like MLB HQ can make these dudes go do them

Like I said before, I don't follow baseball as much as other sports, but what I'm seeing here is Aaron Judge has the better overall season.

However, it's the fact that Ohtani is doing what he did as a pitcher is maybe more remarkable (although I know he didn't pitch this season). I think that's a large part of why they're also fascinated at Ohtani's overall numbers - a pitcher really has no business going 50/55, especially an ace pitcher at that (this I'm familiar with). Most other pitchers would basically be useless at this point as they take a season to recover.

If he pitched this year to his past standards in addition to his offensive output, he would be having one of the best years and unprecedented years in history and deserve to be on that list above Aaron Judge IMO.

Judge is a quiet go about his business guy…he just recently started go on talk shows more frequently and doing cartoons as well

Ohtani on the other hand signed with a new team (a big one at that), was in the news due to the gambling scandal, and has the support of another country (Japan) behind him too
Ohtani doesn't speak English

Yankees are the biggest name in American sports next to cowboys

Wait, I’m confused. How is this metric different than the one they used to convince us that Mike Trout was having all-time monumental seasons?
You can Google how adjusted runs created is calculated.

But long story short...

Every advanced stat that you think was "made up" to boost Mike Trout...all those same stats support every great player in MLB history.

There is no stat on earth that makes Mike Trout look great that makes Barry Bonds or Willie Mays look bad.

That wasn’t my sentiment. I was genuinely asking what difference in metrics. Im used to him being on these top 10 best season list but didnt see him on this one

I'm on my phone and I can't figure out how to generate the list.

But Mike Trout's career best single season wRC+ is 188. Based on the photo from earlier, my guess is Trout's 2018 season (the 188) would rank somewhere in the top 25 all time.

I need more time to be able to explain the difference wRC+ and WAR...at least in a simplified way.

They should team them up for a McGwire Sosa like campaign :wow:
Part of what made 1998 different was

1. Sosa and McGwire ushered in the offensive explosion that brought baseball back from the strike 4 years earlier.
2. Sosa was much more media-friendly than Judge or Ohtani. More than McGwire. But at least McGwire was willing to endure it.
3. Sosa and McGwire were chasing the record.

As great as Ohtani and Judge were this year, they weren't chasing anything. And neither really has the personality of Sosa. Or even the cartoonish muscles of McGwire...which could have brought some attention in the way of a superhero comparison or something.

Baseball is doing great. But it could use a Jose Lima. RIP.
