YNW Melly’s “Murder on My Mind” rockets 59-14 on the
Billboard Hot 100(dated March 2) as fan interest and curiosity swell following the rapper’s recent string of legal troubles.
Attention surrounding “Murder” has swelled in recent weeks as the 19-year-old, born Jamell Demons, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Feb. 13 in Florida for the Oct. 26 homicides of two of his friends. He’s since also reportedly been named a suspect in the 2017 killing of a Florida police deputy.
The rapper currently remains behind bars after he was denied bail.
“Murder” jumps with large help from its massive streaming totals. The single clocked 35.3 million U.S. streams in the week ending Feb. 21, according to Nielsen Music, up 132 percent from the prior week. The flurry generated a 41-3 surge on the
Streaming Songs chart, the seventh-biggest gain by one song in a single week since the chart began in 2013.

“Murder” also starts at No. 15 on the
R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart, selling 6,000 copies in the week ending Feb. 21, a 167 percent jump from the previous period.
In addition, the track rallies 21-7 on
Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and leaps 19-7 on the
Hot Rap Songs survey.
Elsewhere, “Murder” parent album
I Am You also profits from its breakout single’s streaming eruption. You powers 81-20 on the
Billboard 200 albums chart, easily reaching a new peak in its seventh week on the ranking and earned 23,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Feb. 21. It concurrently flies 46-12 on
Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and debuts at No. 12 on
Top Rap Albums.
Beyond “Murder,” YNW Melly also sees renewed interest in his track “Mixed Personalities,” featuring
Kanye West. The collaboration bumps 93-60 on the Hot 100 and enters the Streaming Songs survey at No. 44 thanks to 11.8 million U.S. clicks, up 31 percent.
Between his songs’ gains and his album’s resurgence, YNW Melly generates enough activity to enter the
Billboard Artist 100 weekly ranking for the first time, at No. 36.
