Yes, I am aware that he's a murderous cult leader, but it's still hilarious to hear Jim Jones curse

Jones: Well, thank you for the feedback, ‘cause, I must say, I felt somewhat hypocritical for the last years as I became uh, an atheist, uh, I have become uh, you— you feel uh, tainted, uh, by being in the church situation. But of course, everyone knows where I’m at. My bishop knows that I’m an atheist. He— He knows that I— I— I recognize only love, when I say— I’ll say, "God is Love"— well, you heard my preaching. You know where I’m at.

:francis:
Sounds like he may became atheist after the fact

But it's still odd that 90 percent of his flock were atheist.

With the majority being black people... In the 70s?

Something's off

Finding a black atheist in the 70s would be like finding an Asian built like Cherokee D Ass. Let alone 90 percent of the congregation being that

According to his assistant pastor, Russell Winberg, Jones was an atheist in 1965.....11 years BEFORE the recordings.
Break down the psychology behind why someone would want to become a pastor if they're an atheist, I guess it's better than working in a factory I'd assume? But highly unethical

I wonder if the biopic with Leo will touch on that

He's playing him? I don't if I want to see that or not. If Leo does what he normally does, he's gonna sink his teeth into that shyt put on a performance that could be both brilliant yet disturbing :wow:

Powers Boothe did a surprisingly decent job of capturing Jim's character, but Leo might just have people thinking Jim came back from the grave.

That's who that was! I remember watching that with my mom as a kid. He was an underrated actor. Well respected by his peers, but just off the radar to be a household name.

I kept getting him confused with Tommy Lee Jones for some reason, but, yeah, I also watched that whole miniseries first-run like.......:mindblown:

shyt didn't make sense until I got older.

He was probably fukking them women, while talking all that shyt.
to be fair tho

not defending him because hes still a murderer due to the actions he chose after the incident but

was it Jim Jones who told his goons to shoot the politician or did they simply do that dumb sh1t on their own accord and Jim figured that since we're all fukked now we might as well go out with a bang after the fact?
