why in your opinion did Cam and Jay have an issue?
Y'all think Jay didn't like how Dame essentially got Cam and Dipset who were from Harlem?

I was around when everybody was getting along and the good times were routine. So I never really saw real issues to the point where I felt dudes had beef or some sh*t.
I genuinely don’t think Jay wanted any New York competition on his team. Hell, even all his producers and mixers were out of towners. Da Ranjahz are the only ones I can think of that he brought in who weren’t on shyt, and of course Bleek was no threat whatsoever.

Jay doesn't work like that. At all.
He was trying to sign Rockwilder as an in-house producer. Rock is from Queens. He gave Jay a beat CD with 10 beats, and Jay used and bought all 10. Rock didn't sign because he wanted to be loyal to Def Squad. But Jay was trying to make him in-house forever. And all of the early engineers were all from NY too. He also tried to sign Sauce to Roc, but Sauce chose to go with Priority instead because he had issues with Biggs.
The producer part may have been a reach, at least that’s how I’ve always viewed it. I wasn’t aware of all of that information. Plus I thought rockwilder was with Erick Sermon. In any regard, he’s mostly put non New York rappers on his roster, especially Philly nikkas, and wanted to put Wayne on there during his mixtape run. It’s like Nicki Minaj and female competition from NYC, Jay’s the same way. The only time he’s considered New Yorkers were when they were somewhat already washed up like an MOP or an ODB. He wouldn’t even look out for X, and that was when they made him president at Def Jam, which made no sense to still be that damn petty.

Nah, that's wild inaccurate.
He tried to get M.O.P. off of Relativity in '98 after they did "4 Alarm Blaze" together. But they still owed the label another album. Once they fulfilled that, he started back up with trying to get them on Roc. After Big L was able to get off Columbia, he reached out to L's people to set a meeting for him to come to Roc too. He's always tried to sign other NYC people that he's a fan of. He was even reaching out to Jadakiss for years to get him to sign to Roc after LOX left Bad Boy, but Interscope wouldn't let him go. So Jada ended up signing to Roc years later in like '06 and Jay was executive producing his work.

i Remember when Jaz O had beef with Jay. He called Jay gay. Mentioned Jay mom and other shyt. But when the interviewer asked him why y’all beefing. Jaz reply was “he know what he did”

i said all that to say this. These dudes so used to being looked at as the guy to their crew and fans. It makes them look like suckers if they say the actual reasoning for their issues. No one wants to look like a hater or jealous so they cling to tiniest shyt to get the hatred off

Jaz is a bum though.
He couldn't take it that his protege became more successful than he was. Jay tried to take Jaz with him, but Jaz didn't like that he wasn't gonna be a "boss" in the equation because Biggs and Dame were already there. Dude got offered a $300K advance and turned it down because he felt he was worth more. No label back then would've given him $25, let alone $300,000. But his ego and jealousy f*cked up his own deal. Jay was the only person trying to look out for him.
