Dude they play a game where 200+ pound freakish athletes crash into other over and over again for 60 minutes. Whether it's concussions, leg/knee issues, back/neck issues, whatever.. if you don't think it's a possibility of being a vegetable when you're old after that abuse, then you're not very smart. Doesn't make it any less tragic when it actually happens, but I'm just saying this is one reason why fans aren't clamoring to end the league because of it.
People not clamoring to end the league that hid disastrous mental and physical health issues as a result of its own game just show how deeply flawed this whole enterprise is, from the fan up to the owner, and including every sportscaster, writer, and coach. You're right about that, at least the player decided to play, although the league REALLY fukked itself over in hiding and disputing scientific evidence. They should've known it was only a matter of time before the tide turned against them, and that's what a few have spoken on in here - the arrogance of the NFL will do it in. Domestic abuse cases and CTE are only catalysts. You can even see that arrogance reflected in some fans - they brag about the profits of the league like THEY reap them, they say "women, fags, and liberals" don't watch football, but at the same time say football is the national game and will never die - there are a lot of "women, fags, and liberals" in this country, or else the internet wouldn't constantly complain about how everything is p*ssy nowadays.
I know you weren't touching all these issues, so I'm not attacking you, your comment was just a jumping off point for what I've been thinking lately, which is to say, how can anyone encourage this league, much less this game, being played in good faith? Why are we placing "spectacle" and "entertainment" above suicide and poor quality of life? You really gonna look someone in the eye and say "I'm sorry you have CTE and wanna kill yourself, thanks for the sacks tho"?
