That's not knocking it down, that's batting the ball up in the air. :heh:

Have you ever played DB? That's a classic tip drill, when you bat it up so your teammate can intercept it. You don't do that on a hail marry because there is more than one receiver around.

LOL @ thats not knocking it down.

What about what I put up?

Gus: "Knocked down....OH ITS CAUGHT!!! TOUCHDOWN!!!"

My teaching would tell me to knock the ball down BEFORE the play

My instincts while the ball in the air would probably lead to me want to try and intercept the pass

You think that was an easy catch? Easier than a regular catch at that? :rudy:

He said "knocked down" because 99% of the time that ends the play. He yelled TD because he was shocked. :merchant:

Almost every caught came from someone "knocking the ball down" into someone elses hands.

fukk that....CATCH THE BALL

I think it depends on the situation regarding catching versus batting the ball down. When I played HS ball our DB's coach always wanted us to asset the situation and find out where the offensive players are on the field. shyt is too chaotic in that situation too where folks can say explicitly say this or that.

That's just a hell of a play by the receiver. :yeshrug:

Knocking it down definitely favors the defense by reducing the chance of a catch. Any football coach will tell you that.

And some coaches say catch it.

Almost every Hail Mary is a result of "knocking the ball down."

You have no control of where the ball goes knocking it down. I rather a DB try to control the ball by catching it.

Who cares what he said. Catch the fukking ball or try to. There are MUCH more instances of knocking the ball down resulting in a TD than there is a DB trying to catch the ball resulting in one.

For every TD (which was BS) like on monday, there are 5 "knock the ball down" hail mary's that got through because they did just that.

As a DB, if I can get 2 hands on a hail marry, then I would promptly direct the ball to the ground. Too much can happen trying to possess it. The problem with knocking it down is sometimes guys knock it up. That's because they didn't have a good shot at it.

I nearly intercepted a hail marry once, but with possession in the air I basically spiked it. Game over. Coach said "I thought you were about to catch that I woulda ripped your head off" or something to that affect.

A play ends when a pass hits the ground. Why prolong it and give the offense even the slimmest of chances?

I played a little bit of college ball, HS, little league, CB at every level. Every coach I ever had said knock it down and that makes the most sense to me. If I ever coach (and I do want to), we will knock it down. :yeshrug:

:what:

I asked you a question. We go through so drama every I ask you a question, breh. :heh:

This is a forum. We're conversing. I asked you if you thought that was an easy catch? Running full speed toward the goal line and having a football ricochet back at you like that? You can guarantee it didn't "spiral" into his hands.

So do you think that was an easy catch?

And I don't understand your last point. 5 knock the ball down hail marys that got through? What does that mean? I kinda sorta might know what you're asking but I wouldn't dare as you another question, breh.

MOST completed Hail Marys are a result of the ball being knocked down, not what happened on Monday.

There's a difference between a ball being tipped and a ball being knocked down. Out of the 2 examples in this thread, I saw one tip and one knock down.

As DB's we were taught that if you can't intercept the ball, tip it, because there's going to be more defenders than receivers and a teammate can then make the pick. Tipping keeps the ball alive.

On a hail marry, we were taught to knock it down. That lowers the chance of a receiver catching the ball. However, tipping it can actually help the offense by keeping the ball alive. But even after a tip, the next defender should knock it down.

Arguing this is ridiculous. Maybe they shouldn't even play defense since "MOST" hail marrys are the result of tips (not knockdowns, tips).

It's whatever, man. Point is GB didn't lose on one play. They played 60 minutes of football and only scored 12 points. That's why they lost.

And SOOOO many Hail Mary's are completed. That's why it's called a Hail Mary. To thank God for its high completion rate. :troll:
Who said that? :what:

I said "when they ARE completed" not that rate of completion.

What the fukk?!?!?!?!?!?
