This is what happens when developers takes risk and change the formula. There are gonna be a lot of people that pick this game up and want it to be like all the other Xeno games and it's not. This isn't the game I wanted it to be but I'll judge it for the game it actually is instead of what I wanted.

We've know that this game is a huge open world JRPG with a minimal focus on story and a maximum focus on exploration since it came out in Japan. The game is a total departure fro the narrative heavy previous games in the series.
And there's a reason those games often fail outside of Japan.

Because JRPGs are a niche genre at this point. Gamers have mostly outgrown them and as gamers grew up the genre became less and less important. I'm almost 32 now. When I get a game and it goes more than 25 hours my attention starts to fail me no matter how good it is. I've had Tales of Zestiria wince it came out over a month ago and I'm only about 26 hours in. It's starting to wear on my attention as well. I work a full time job and shyt I just don't have the time nor the will to put all those hours into a game anymore. It's probably true for a lot of people that grew up playing JRPGs.

The youth of today don't play games in that genre anymore. They haven't been prominent since the PS1 days really.

Pass. shyt looks garbage

I actually agree. The game looks more like a WRPG than a JRPG.

I do wish there was a little more emphases on co-op play, but this game gives me PSO dreamcast vibes.

This shyt is essentially an offline MMO full of mindless fetch quests. No thanks, Jeff.

Should not have called it Xeno then (same for Chronicles). I understand the name decision from a business perspective however.

And there's a reason those games often fail outside of Japan.

And what's the reason? A strong emphasis on story is why most people play JRPGs. When the story is some kiddie anime shyt (Tales, Ni No Kuni, etc.) no one gives a shyt. But when it's a quality story (Xenogears, FF6, FF7, Valkyrie Profile, Suikoden, Xenosaga) people take notice. Square Enix has a monopoly on the genre and hasn't released a quality title in years. People have given up on the genre.

Meh. I need a JRPG with a great story and fun, flowing pacing.

Don't we all.
