I swear there was already on this. Anyways, Microsoft needs to improve in Europe and Asian markets because they're mainly strong in North America and UK when talking about major markets. It's like Phil said it will take more than one game to swing sales in their favour. However, they're somewhat playing a different game than both Sony and Nintendo because they most likely care about software revenue and subscribers. Revenue wise they should be 3rd after acquiring ABK with only Sony and Tencent ahead.

Also, I am a believer that in order to drive gamepass subs up they need more console sales because I feel that's where bulk of subs generate from. I feel most PC gamers don't want to touch windows store and will only use PC gamepass as a demo to see if a game is worth buying on steam. Hopefully, they can fix windows store to drive PC subs, but at the moment console is the main driver for gamepass

Console sales are an outdated metric to use with Microsoft. They are the only one that releases games day and date on multiple platforms. All they care about is making money. They have the best catalog of games by far in terms of the amount of quality, recognizable IP. If they really wanted to 'win' a war with their IP through a box, they could. That is clearly not their goal. They are preparing for the impeding content war when the console box is not a necessity for competent home gameplay. Within a couple of years, if it even takes that long, Microsoft is going to be the biggest company in gaming in terms of revenue. The Xbox consoles are just yet another vehicle to get their games in people's hands.

Don't get me wrong, I love the console war fodder as I've participated for years in it. However, I just see it for what it is now. Microsoft is just going to out-money everyone now and play the long game, waiting in the cut for you to say that you need help.

Bethesda needed help, Activision needed help. One day, someone else will and the big homie from Redmond got the wallet open to help you through your trying times.
