Xbox One Does Require Internet Connection, Can't Play Offline Forever

Kotaku: If I’m playing a single player game, do I have to be online at least once per hour or something like that? Or can I go weeks and weeks?

Harrison: I believe it’s 24 hours.

Kotaku: I’d have to connect online once every day.

Harrison: Correct.

So the system is built to work even if your Internet connection goes down, but you still have to be connected at least once a day to use it, according to Harrison. We're not sure exactly what would happen if you don't connect once per day—and that timeframe could change—but this doesn't sound good for anyone who was hoping to use Xbox One without an Internet connection.

Update: Sounds like things are a mess over at Microsoft. Now they're telling Polygon that Harrison's comments illustrate a "potential scenario."

"While Phil [Harrison] discussed many potential scenarios around games on Xbox One, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail," a Microsoft rep said. "There have been reports of a specific time period — those were discussions of potential scenarios, but we have not confirmed any details today, nor will we be."

:laff: "potential scenario" oh you mean if people potentially buy your shytty entertainment system? :pachaha: this is a disaster, msft can't even give straight facts about their own system :snoop: xbox fanboys looking real desperate for a win right now. bu bu at least we have vibrating triggers :sadcam:

meanwhile ps4 is coming thru crushing the xbox in raw power and sony stock is :win: not to mention still free internet :win: oh your internets down for a few days homie? hop on that campaign, get some road to glory in, you straight, internets not necessary :win: tryna save a few bucks and buy that game used? we got you :win:

can't lie that tv connectivity is fukking dope tho. half tv/half game :feelsgood: but ill be fine pausing and switching inputs :smugdraper:

That's not nearly as bad as having it constantly on :yeshrug: but it's still pretty bad. If XBOX Live is down, I can't continue my Be A Pro? :aicmon:. But the deal breaker is still their used games software :birdman:

Imagine if they will be charging you a fee if you don't connect at least once every 24.

For starters we won't need to use disc anymore

You can still go to a friends house and play over there, but now you don't have to worry about it breaking or getting stolen

Parents have peace of mind knowing there hard earned money isn't wasted by adolescent behavior that is a part of life :manny:

We'll realize we use digital as a medium anyway and stop buying physical copies like music CD's

Not convincing at all, try a bit harder. :troll:

i do not see anything good with this trash vision except that, publishers and xbox getting money whist slowly bleeding gamestop etc dry and to top it off making US gamers pay more.

Step into the future brehs. I know it can be a bit frightening to make that first step, but trust me it will be amazing.

Think back to all the futuristic/sci-fi movies we watched as kids. This is how we thought technology would work when we grew up.

You would walk into the kitchen and the fridge would greet you with "good moring meachthemonster how would you like your eggs this morning"

":youngsabo: sunny side up, why thank you fridgidaire"

The fridge would get with the oven and get my breakfast popping all while my tv presents the morning news I'd like to read. Give me some weather/traffic recommendations. :eat:Then I'm off to my day

The Xbox One will bring this concept to entertainment. Imagine being able to sit down in front of any Xbox and say "Xbox play call of duty" and not only does the game come up instantly, but my profile and my saves come up and I can pick up where I left off last time I sat in front of an Xbox.

Imagine playing a shooter and actually having to regulate your breath/pulse in order to stabilize the weapon.:ahh:

Imagine a rpg with a seamless, infinite world that you can access through the cloud on any one of your devices.:ohlawd:

Imagine getting your ass handed to you in dark souls 3 :sadcam: and the Xbox one can go out and get some strategy for you while you play.

Playing through real time scenarios while watching/interacting with the halo tv series:lawd:

Imagine playing a season of 2k and playing against real time strategy and A.I from the games every day. Lebron gets hot in real life he gets hot on your team. Kobe taking 55 shots a game in real life, Kobe taking 55 shots a game in your season.:gladbron:

This is innovation, this is the future of gaming. Graphics aren't enough anymore. We need new experiences and new ways to interact with our games. We need larger more complex worlds and A.I.:blessed:

I'm excited about what the future holds for gaming and entertainment, and I believe Xbox one is a step toward that future. As with any innovation it will be met with a lot of skepticism, and only time will tell if Microsoft was too early with its lofty goals.

What I do know is its a great time to be a gamer:stylin:

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
I hate GameStop anyways, used games hurts the industry, and I always like to keep my games for sentimental value or random replays in the future.

Most people on this site are just bitter broke bytches.

How much did it hurt the industry since they've been selling used games at retail stores since the NES days...from Funcoland to Blockbuster etc...does used Cars hurt the car industry?..u can't be this naive and shortsighted...honestly..u tellin me it's a good idea to not even be able to borrow a game from a friend or family member?..or bring a game to ya friends crib to play?...and nikkas need to think past themselves...not only adults play videogames...what about all the kids this shyt is gonna affect?..cause kids trade games all the time...
