Xbox 720 News: Will Have To Promote Connectivity To Be Successful, Says Hideo Kojima
The next Microsoft console is bound to bring improved graphics and storage capabilities, but its defining feature may end up being its connectivity, according to legendary video game developer Hideo Kojima.
Responding to a question from Hip Hop Gamer at Spike TV's Video Game Awards regarding what it will take for a next-gen console to be successful, Kojima, founder of the Metal Gear Solid series, replied:
"Well I really feel that there needs to be a lot of interconnectivity, just with other devices and anything out there. So then whether it's media, music, all that, it's all connected with that console so we could do it over cell phones and tablets. All that interconnected in one place, as one media."
Kojima's wish may come true, as Microsoft has been making moves to integrate more systems into its gaming sphere.
Microsoft recently released Xbox SmartGlass, which "turns your mobile phone or tablet into a second screen that intelligently interacts with your Xbox 360 to elevate your entertainment experience" and "allows for your devices and TV to talk to each other to enhance your favorite TV shows, movies, music, sports and games," according to Microsoft. The tech giant is also reportedly working on gaming tablet, dubbed 'Xbox Surface,' and an in-house smartphone that could end up having a gaming variant.
When (and if) they come to fruition, Microsoft's gaming tablet and phone should interact with Kinect 2.0, which is expected to launch with the Xbox 720. On top of all of that, Microsoft should also be releasing a more casual-friendly set-top version of the Xbox 720 in an effort to make Xbox a brand associated with more all-around entertainment.
The dedicated gaming Xbox 720 is believed to utilize Blu-Ray discs, come with around 8GB RAM, and have a TV input to record broadcast television. Reports indicate Microsoft will be releasing the Xbox 720 in time for the 2013 holiday season.

do yall agree?
i can see how connectivity could help with some things like the smartglass does in connecting the devices to the tv through the xbox, but i cant see how that would be essential for the 720's success. the only type of connectivity i could think that would really have a major affect would be the ability to connect in the other direction, ie the xbox being accessable through your tablet/phone while you are on the move, maybe through the cloud. other than that im just not sure what else could be done
