Nakamura was one of the biggest stars on the roster at that time and had just beaten Cena clean
Dude has been booked to do absolutely shyt this year and got one of the biggest pops anyone has gotten all year last night.
Your post got some daps, but you're not considering the casual fan if you think Shinsuke Nakamura was one of the biggest stars in WWE in summer 2017. So many people didn't, and still don't, know who the fukk he is. They were partially trying to reach Indian fans with Jinder's run, and you do that by putting him with legit superstars that everybody knows, like Cena or Orton. Him vs Nakamura doesn't feel like a big deal and real push to anyone except hardcore fans who talk about "booking" and star ratings.
Kofi has been booked excellent, putting on really good matches, and has the crowd firmly behind him. Kofi has always had crowd support, even during some stale periods, as he’s been a face most of his career. The fans were firmly buying into Kofi after that amazing display in the gauntlet on SD. It’s literally the complete opposite of Jinder. Jinder had been a literal jobber for years, made his return to the WWE with a new body, and was rocketed to a title after concussing Finn Balor and beating Swagger in 5 minutes. Jinder was only getting great reactions like the first 3 weeks, then the crowd finally realized Jinder had the title and lost interest. It didn’t help they turned Jinder from looking like an actual threat upon winning the title to a generic p*ssy foreign heel. Overall, their reigns aren’t alike in the slightest.
There’s no such thing as a casual fan in WWE anymore all of em left so yes, most people who watched WWE in 2017 knew Nakamura was big time.
