WWE Ramping Up Interest In Buying TNA As Time Is Running Out On Company, WWE's Plans For TNA

Last week we reported on a New York Daily News story stating that WWE had recently put in an offer to purchase the struggle TNA wrestling company. It was noted that WWE was among a few interested parties that were trying to buy TNA, including Sinclair Broadcasting, which owns Ring of Honor (ROH), and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan.

While it may have been expected that talks and negotiations would go on for several weeks before anything concrete came to fruition, it appears TNA is running out of time to sell.

Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that there was still no deal for Billy Corgan to purchase the company and WWE was back in the picture as a serious bidder. The time is ticking on Corgan as he needs to make a deal to fund this Sunday’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view and next week’s TV tapings.

During a recent appearance on ESPN, Corgan said that a purchase of the company could take several weeks but Meltzer indicated that a deal needs to be made before Friday as it’s the last business day before Sunday’s TNA pay-per-view event.

As for WWE’s plans for TNA if they indeed buy the company, don’t expect to see WWE do anything incredible with the brand. It is expected that WWE plans to buy TNA mainly for the tape library and would keep a few wrestlers, much like they did when they purchased WCE, but the company (TNA) would be done.

It will be interesting to see how the week plays out but it appears WWE are major players in the TNA sale

Only positive WWE buying TNA would be is adding TNA content on to the Network :wow: I've been trying to find some past Impact episodes from 06-08 and I can't find em.

I doubt anything will happen (hope not at least), we've seen this same song and dance, although not in this capacity though. :lupe:

For people that were in the IWC in 2001, what was it like during the whole WCW fiasco in March 01? Similar to this? Or different?

You mean ruining the business. Please explain how taking away the only viable #2 option for wrestling promotions will help anyone? And let's keep in mind that TNA is far from any sort of competition for WWE.

Quiet stooge. You were saying for years that TNA wasn't good.

Besides The Network has plenty of content and they still have plenty more to upload.

Wonder which wrestlers would be kept.

The reason the deal would need to be finalized by Friday is because Corgan would need to be able to fund this Sunday’s TNA Bound For Glory as well as next week’s TNA Impact Wrestling TV tapings. Friday is the last business day before Sunday’s Bound For Glory and that’s why Friday is the day that the deal would have to be done by.
That isn't how anything works. Meltzer used uninformed conjecture to basically create a story.

PWInsider is now reporting sources have noted WWE has been back in the mix and has had talks regarding the purchase of TNA for about the past 5 days.

There’s still the chance that Billy Corgan can make a deal happen but even PWInsider believes “the fuse on the TNA bomb is close to the end.” The report adds something or someone is going to have to give soon and there’s no avoiding it.

As noted it should be a very interesting week for TNA as we head into Bound for Glory as the PPV and subsequent TNA TV tapings will have to be funded and it remains to be seen if that will rest in the hands of potentially new buyers.

“the fuse on the TNA bomb is close to the end.”

They must buy a couple meters of cable for that fuse. I want to see The Great War.
