Yeah, as a division it was a non starter. They should've kept the belt imo (and made it look better) and used it how WCW did in early parts of the card, but they didn't really care so it wasn't gonna work.

It was a great tournament. I wouldn't have given the title to TJPerkins but I get why they did. Gran metallik, ZSJ, kota ibushi, and Cedric were incredible in the tourney

100%. People have been criticizing AEW for only booking for the most hardcore of fans, and this is another example of that. It’s like AEW’s mentality is that if you don’t know everything about wrestling then screw you. I’ve never seen or heard of 90% of the wrestlers on Forbidden Door, and they didn’t make the slightest bit of effort to make me compelled to care about them.

Okay, Daniel Bryan said ZSJ is a great technical wrestler but why should I care when I know nothing about him. This dude Okota comes out and they say how great he is, but as somebody that doesn’t watch NJPW why should I care about him showing up. I understand this is a show for the most hardcore of wrestling nerds, but it’s bad business to not at least try to make it accessible for all fans. I’ve bought every AEW PPV since day one, but I’m skipping this show.

Main gripe about Forbidden Door is the presentation of the NJPW wrestlers feel cheap. It feels too much like a country club like they're expecting us to know all of these wrestlers without at least having simple stuff like promos and video packages to sell us on them. Okada being just another guy is a huge mistake and they should've been building him up like the goat he is. I have some friends that mainly watch WWE and they had no clue who anybody was except Okada because they knew he was a big deal

Okada and Tanahashi is legit like if Seth and Cena were in G1, or if they had an IWGP TITLE MATCH, and Japan had them debut in t shirts with no real explanation like that...this is a huge miss
