Having listened to this album a few times. I think the verses are pretty dope. Though I would liked to hear more GZA, a little more Ghost and Rae too, but it does show how much the not so prominent rappers have improved as lyricists, especially in the case of Masta Killa (who was always nice), Deck and Capadonna.
Musically, I did not like the production like that. I think that RZA has sort of gone to the point where he is just better suited to do movie soundtracks. It's not wack but it's just a little to overdone when I think that the rapping is better suited over something a little more stripped down and a lot of the samples have been done too much recently, like I love the title track but it's at least the 6th or 7th time I have heard 'Wake Up' used over the past 7 or 7 years.
That being said Ruckus in B-Minor is my favorite joint off the album.
Edit: Method man doesn't get enough credit as a rapper. That 420 album was one of the underrated albums of the past decade, imo. Dude carried 8 Diagrams, imo and he was incredible on this album.
Even with my gripes with the production, I still think it's a good listen and is sort of a testament to how strong Wu-Tang is as a group. I think that this should be their final album, though. It's clear the growth of everyone involved, makes it harder and harder to make a cohesive album with so many egos at play and honestly, the group is little stale without ODB still being alive. RZA is the heart of the group but ODB was the soul in a lot of ways.
Exactly how I feel. the production was very hit and miss on this jawn.
Ruckus is also my favorite joint too.
Meth and MK definitely did their thing.
