I had to avoid this thread after the snippets dropped (which i didn't listen too) to have a clear mind going into the album, so i don't know the general opinion of the fellow coli wu heads yet :sadcam:.

First listen......

The clan were on point. Meth just murdered his appearances on this album, Rae & Gza :whew:. The pleasant surprise for for me was U God and Cap, I thought they were dope throughout!

Masta Killa :damn::ohlawd:

Ghost, on miracle:damn::banderas: and preachers son, lawd have mercy.

However ....

What in the holy fukk is that hook on miracle. I'm actually pissed, because the clan murdered that track. If that garbage ass horrible hook wasn't on it that track would have been impeccable. How in the hell they listen to that hook and thought it sounded good?

Preachers Son, again the clan gone a good job on the track, but the beat and hook are horrible to me.

Pioneer the Frontier .... good lord :wow:. You can't imagine how happy I was to hear that hard, dusty ass beat after Preacher's Daughter. Excellent track.

Overall I am very happy with this release, all things considered. It's a shame though, because if you take them singing ass hooks out and changed up a few beats, this would be a whole different ball game.

Of course its very early days, but this a solid 4 for me.

On first listen, I think it's a very solid album.

Rza's a great musician with a really unique vision in this field. He's not in a place where he wants to deliver that 'dark' album that fans and the Clan want, but he still puts out quality.

There were some really fresh moments on the album. 40th Street jumped out immediately. Just felt like something new for the Clan and it worked for me.

As I already said, Felt is my joint. The way it started, I was like "Oh no!" hahaha.

Nathaniel is terrible. fukk that dude.

Miracle hook definitely sounded like some Cinderella shyt. Which is unfortunate, because that track goes hard otherwise.

I didn't even hate the Preachers Daughter joint. It was pretty funky to me honestly. I just hated when they started the actual hook.

Meth on A Better Tomorrow...Meth is dope, period. An on that note, the emceeing was mostly good throughout. That was great to hear. Want to really dive into the lyrics with more spins.

One rotation, I had it at a 3.75/5 with room to grow. I'd definitely put it behind the first four albums, but I liked 8D more than a lot of people, so having these two battling out for 5 and 6 isn't really a knock.

I still wouldn't be happy with them leaving on this. I want to feel fed the way I did when I digested OB4CL2 for the first time. Maybe that's unreasonable, but there were moments here that made me feel like Rza is completely capable of giving us that gritty one more time.

Aight, didn't really chime in too much yesterday because I was chillin with the fam and doing the Hell Day thing. You know cause I'm for poverty neglected by the wealthy. Anyways, been listening some more since I got back home, and I still really enjoy this album. I'd put it up there with the W. Definitely better than 8 Diagrams and MUCH betterthan Iron Flag. The hooks/singing on here seems to be the issue most are having with the album and that's understandable. If RZA left off some of that sh!t, this probably could've been my AOTY. It's that enjoyable.

A few observations:

- Ghost Miracle verse is best verse on the album. Crazy...

- It seems like a few of you aren't really fans of 40th Street/We Will Fight, but I fvcks wit it. Despite the Queen/Freddie Mercury -esque chants. Lol. RZA actually sounds like the old RZA we love on there.

- Masta Killa is the unsung hero on this album. He brung it for real.

- I hated the Preacher's Daughter singing when I heard it on the snippets, still don't like it, but the song is really good. Meth, Masta Killa and Ghost with great verses.

- Meth bounce and flow is soooo necessary. Tical is one of the GOAT MCs ever and he shows why, AGAIN, on this album. His flow is top 5 ever.

- If Miracle didn't have that corny singing it would be the best track I've heard all year. Easy.

- I really like Keep Watch now. After the tweaks made to it, it's really a nice cut and sounds like one of those traditional Wu-bangas.

- Not one really bad song on the album and the cohesiveness is testiment to RZA's executive producer acumen. Flows so well from start to finish.

If you're a Wu fan, and enjoy this album, SUPPORT IT! If you haven't already, go pre-order it or get your ass in the store on Tuesday and pick it up. It's worth it and unfortunately, based off the circumstances that surround this album, it could possibly be their last. The Wu is the GOAT group in hip hop history and this is a solid album. You won't regret buying an album that could be their group swan song.

that's great to hear!!! iron flag is very forgettable..
Iron Flag was Wu's worst album. Only cut I liked on there was "babies" and that was it.

Matter of fact, Wu has had many forgettable projects. Golden Arms by U-God, Immobilarity & Lex Diamond story by Raekwon, and GZA's Beneath The Surface come to mind.
