Since they knew how much fuel was onboard, the authorities probably already established a maximum radius of area that the plane could have landed. Since they were over water, I think they didn't make it to where they were going and they are probably at the bottom of the sea.

I'm not sure how much fuel it had but I have read that even if it lost both engines, it could still glide for another 100 miles if the pilot is skilled. Authorities have already said that whoever was behind this really knew what they were doing.
