Nope. It was because of the Rumble. They even had Bryan get defeated by Roman in the #1 contender match and it still didn't work to quell the beards. They were already pissed off by the Rumble and Bryan's short reign (no pun) a year earlier.

A casual fan would never spend upwards of a thousand dollars to attend 3 or 4 WWE events in a row. Ever. You have to be the most hardcore of hardcore fans to pay a premium to attend this show. Vince know the crowd he's gonna get, book to manipulate them. If he can't do it at age 72, step down. You can't jack the price up and run the same building and accept the $ from hardcores, then cry that they're there.

Vince knows the marks are gonna watch no matter how much they complain.

He doesn't need to overcompensate & bend over backwards to please them. He does enough as is.

They're gonna be there regardless.
