Most obvious thing is the fact HHH, the heel went over denying Rock his babyface wins the title at Mania moment that most of the other GOATs have. Probably the first real SHHHovel moment.
Now I'm not totally mad at that booking because it was at least surprising and teaches the audience that the face going over at Mania isn't 100% guaranteed and also because they corrected it a month later at Backlash but the point is that Backlash match should've been the Mania main event. Having your Mania main event be a 4 way is lame too. It ruins the prestige. It should feel like a one on one prizefight and Rock v HHH made all the sense in the world.
On top of that they focused the whole fukking thing on the McMahons
Rock was white hot getting Austin level pops and on SNL and they sell the main event around Linda's robotic ass.
And they bring Foley back a few weeks after having an all time great retirement moment. Whole thing was a shyt show.
It's weird too because 2000 was probably their best ever year in terms of product, particularly ppvs. Almost all their ppvs that year were really good with some all time great ppvs like the Rumble, No Way Out, Backlash and Fully Loaded. But the Mania just fell flat, not just because of the main event but the whole card is strange. The only one on one match is some peak Attitude era trash; The Kat vs Terri. The rest are tag matches and multi person matches.
Some matches are straight up Smackdown level shyts; Godfather & D'Lo vs Bossman & Bull Buchanan (although we did get a Ice T performance out of that) and Head Cheese vs T&A
If they wanted to get everyone on the roster they should've just did a battle royale.
I don't hate the show. Obviously the Hardys/E&C/Dudleys first three way is an all timer and it's actually my favorite of their trilogy and it still holds up. Angle/Benoit/Jericho is good too but not the classic you'd hope for.
Oh and peak Trish
But overall jusst an awkward ass Mania
