Would you really change the way NBC covers the Olympics if you ran NBC (article)

The people complaining are doing so online
So they're using a smartphone or computer

They have the option on those devices to watch any event they want...so

The coverage could be improved though sure

Here in Chile they tried to do this with Athens 2004. shyt flopped hard.

Since then we have 2 channels showing 6 to 8 hours a day with all the competitions (and they are the 2 biggest national channels too). And this year we got ESPN & DirectTV going all day non stop.

But hey, if the ratings are as high as they are, you can't fault NBC for going this route :manny:

I wish they had more channels covering the Olympics. When i turn NBC on and all i see is Equestrian or cycling for the next 2 hrs, that shyt is wack. Atleast Bravo does some coverage, but it's mostly tennis, which is cool.

Its also on MSNBC, CNBC, and NBS Sports. In total they have 5 networks running coverage.

I haven't been following the nature of the complaining. I just know that my FiOS has:

- Olympic Soccer Channel that shows all matches
- Olympic Basketball channel that shows all basketball.
- NBC Sports Network shows various events from 3am to 8am, then again from 8am to 7pm
- MNBC does the same
- NBC does events 9am to 4pm
- CNBC does all boxing at 4pm, then a summary show at night
- Bravo has been showing Tennis matches
- Then there's the primetime stuff.

That's the everyday schedule in HD
I wouldn't want anymore coverage.

Are people complaining because they don't get every sport live in HD? Are these people that don't have cable? The coverage seems pretty damn good, especially if you like basketball, soccer, tennis or boxing. I've recorded every session so far and they seem to be covering just about everything. Not every athlete in every sport, but pretty close. I think they've shown every minute of stuff like rowing, dressage, Ping Pong, shooting, archery and swimming and diving. They haven't shown all of the beach volleyball apparently, but going through the pools, I believe they have shown all volleyball. They've shown most of handball too. Hate that they are leaving their relationship with Microsoft though, because they had a Media Center plugin in 08 that did every event, live or not.

Yea I know, but MSNBC, CNBC and NBC Sports only broadcast during the day. They could at least use those channels to broadcast events we don't see during the day or on the prime time coverage on NBC.

i feel that shyt is too americanized. i know they're catering to their audience but part of what's great about the olympics is great athletes from other places with great stories i'd rather hear about that then phelps and the high school chick all day. it'd be interesting to know who their opponents are. they don't have to do in depth pieces but shyt gimme a little back story

This makes no sense. Everyone wants everything shown during the 3 hours of primetime? DVR brehs.

no nikka, what i said was they need to use the extra channels to show events that we don't see on the 3 hr prime time show. Those other channels don't cover the Olympics during the night which is ridiculous and probably because NBC wants everyone to watch the prime time show.

This. It's all politics though, they are going to glorify and downplay everything about the american competitors in events they have a chance in. I'm not watching the olympics to only see events where nikkas can bring home a medal for the US, I wanna see it all.

You answered your own question, nikka. Be realistic.

Canada coverage takes a dump on America's

All NBC cares about is phelps, Lochte, missy franklin and the gymnastic team.

It's like nothing else exists

This is right. The only thing I can legitimately complain about is the swimming, which always freezes up on me. But everything else is on point except for the fact that streams lag sometimes, you open more than 1 and it starts slowing down and freezing. But from a coverage standpoint ONLINE they have everything covered. I only have the TV on the tennis and soccer cause those are the sports I watch the most.. no complaints.

NBCSN - Soccer and USA Basketball
Bravo - Tennis
CNBC - Boxing
Then there's the olympic basketball and soccer channels in HD for those who have them.
MSNBC - no idea tbh, haven't watched that one.
NBC - Everything else

The only legitimate complaint is swimming and gymnastics aren't shown til the night.

Between fencing, judo, archery, etc, its almost impossible to manage between them on one channel. Maybe more channels showing these obscure sports? Sure.
