Would you call JR Smith an underachiever?

A knucklehead yes and that is partially the reason for why his role in this league is what it is but with that in mind, is there any player who isn't a star that gives you the  more than JR Smith? Obviously explosive at the rim and can also reel off 7 threes in a row.

I love watching him play but I also hate watching him play.

I'm not sure I'd go the underachiever route because he is who he is.. just with an insane amount of ability/athleticism.

I actually don't see the potential in J.R. that others see. He's a good (albeit very streaky) long distance shooter and has crazy hops and can finish well around the rim, but I don't think there's any other exceptional skills or abilities that he has.

I'd say JR and Nick Young. Both aren't really team players who can get you quick points of iso and streaky 3's. They are athletic finishers as well. JR is stuck in that "role" as you say, But maybe nick will have a breakout season in Philly.

I think its more on him. He never really tried to get better, just relied on that jumpshot of his instead of trying to make his game more well rounded.

Atleast Nick Young has swag and also Nick is a better spot of shooter.

JR Smith is like a walking embodiment of Russian Roulette, when he's on the court, you are gonna live or die by this nikka, by putting him in you're basically pulling the trigger.

Yep, and he always takes the most difficult shots But there's always a chance he gets hot so gotta leave him in

He's got the talent of an All-Star. Can run and jump out of the gym. Is a very good shooter just gets caught up in taking dumb shots. He's not a classi underachiever for where he was drafted, but talent wise he is. Could definitely have averaged between 17-20 all those years in Denver he just would do something great then follow it with a bonehead play. And Karl ain't have no patience for that shyt. He also seems like the type who doesn't' work on his game like he should.
