How are you the same caliber player and one guy wins 5 MVPs and the other guys wins none? That number of MVPs is reserved for the greatest of the great (Mike, Kareem). Meanwhile Dirk and Pierce have championships as "the man" :usure: you taking their careers over Mike/Kareem's?

Generally speaking if you are "the man" on a championship team and in the running for MVP every year chances are you are gonna have an MVP award or two to show for it. It's actually kinda hard to seperate the two. :manny:

Easy: In both scenarios, I'm me. In the title scenario, I'm playing on a great team, I have a lot of help, while my biggest competitor does not, so he wows folks every regular season (may even lead his inferior team to a better regular season record) and beats me for MVP... bear in mind, my "biggest competitor" may not be the same each year.

In the MVP scenario, my team sucks, I have to do more and I do so, wowing in the regular season, leading my team to far exceed expectations. However, in the playoffs, my team's holes become magnified and I'm never able to win a title.

My capabilities remain the same in both scenarios... and I'd rather have the title.

:what: THOSE nikkaS GOT HELLA RINGS TOO.
THATS WHY IM COMING UP WITH REAL LIFE COMPARISONS...
INSTEAD OF THIS 5 MVPS WITH NO TITLES FANTASY shyt.

:heh: at you discussing a hypothetical scenario and then dismissing shyt as "fantasy shyt". Just think about that for a second.

As far as your first point.

There are no nikkas with that many MVP's and no rings therefore there is no real life comparison.

The thing is though if you win 5 MVPs that means you are likely doing sometype of historic shyt in order to keep winning and it's unlikely that you win that many MVPs without winning at least one ring. If you are clearly the man on a title squad and consistent contender you are likely to get and MVP or two along the way. That's why I say it's kinda hard to seperate the two.

Obviously winning is a big part of it all, but I would not trade my damn personal achievements over team accomplishments.

I dont care if people find that selfish I am comfortable enough to admit it.

Yep.. Even correlating this to your personal lives, would you rather win 5 awards for being the best employee for the year in your respective industry or have your company win best firm of the year in its industry..

Winning 5 MVPs in and of itself is unlikely, as you keep pointing out. I'm just trying to keep the argument fair by assuming they're on the same level.

I don't think it's too farfetched, but if you want a more believable comparison, consider Bron being guilted into staying in Cleveland and Dwade never gets injured and neither ever win another title. Unlike my example, LeBron is clearly the better player, but this should be believable enough for you.... I'd still rather be Wade with the title... tho this is closer.

What NBA team did a nikka named Barry Bonds play for? :ohhh:

:pachaha:

I get your point however the discussion that you quoted was only referencing basketball.

:manny: Just responding to the general discussion of the thread. Didn't see basketball mentioned in your post.

On topic, MVP's >>>> then an avg champion. Even greater than a nikka that was a starter on a championship team.

I'll take 5 MVPs. Thats pretty much a guarantee I'll have made 9 figures in my career. 1 chip? Eddy Curry and Toine Walker got that. :scusthov:

Am I as crucial to that one title as say Bron was to his team for his or am I just along for the ride like Chicago centers in the 90's?

Five MVP's. Means I was the best player in the world in my prime and at least a top 3 player in my respective generation. I'm now immortal in the sport.

Whether I'm a bench warmer or marginal All-Star level player, that one ring just means my squad was nice for that season. If I'm a superstar with a good enough team to get one ring I probably would have 2-3 MVPs so that would kill the argument.
