Short term example to show Kanye's ignorance?

No hostage was choosing to follow a terrorist's commands for 6 months before the day that terrorist cell decided to behead that hostage in front of a camera. Fear & attachment to the "hope for the moment I'm going to be saved" is what was guiding the hostage up until their demise.

But Kanye would definitely say the hostage was choosing to be a hostage.

A bit longer term example to show Kanye's ignorance?

No concentration camp prisoner was choosing to follow the Nazi SS commands while in the concentration camp before ultimately being gassed or tortured to death even though they outnumbered the soldiers because there was no way to be sure that enough people would fight as well and you're thinking about your children and loved ones who will get the brunt of the punishment if you rebel and fail.

But Kanye would definitely say the holocaust victim was choosing to be a holocaust victim.

Long term example to show Kanye's ignorance?

No enslaved person in the colonial Americas were choosing to subject themselves to the commands of slave owners and overseers for their entire life, even though they outnumbered the slave owners, because the long term trauma and hopelessness that exists after the horrors of the transport, the witnessing of the murder of black babies, the witnessing of the raping of their mothers and the confusion of being in a land that is completely foreign to you is devastating.

All a slave could possibly know is that in every corner of the world, white slave owners have the upper hand and the backing of the government and citizen. Escape, for most, seemed futile and the attachments to the other slaves and family that you've grown with in the situation serves as a way to hold you hostage because of what vile things will happen to them if you don't comply.
