I didn't know he had the tallest water slide. Driving past a few times a week and it looks intimidating. Anyone who has been out in western Kansas City Kansas knows how flat it is and to see this thing towering over trees and shyt. Plus they just built twin Cerner buildings in the area and they might not be as tall as the water slide. A lot of steps.
Yeah I think this is in Kansas City, Kansas.

Not Kansas City, Missouri.

I guess Kansas needed to do something for tourism.

Not a chance. I wonder how much water it would take to keep the surface wet. Imagine the brush burn you would get. No guards for the stairs means someone will try to bungee jump, parachute, wind sail or something off that. I'm calling at least one death in the first month (if even that long).

I wouldn't do it.
I'm afraid of heights.
I had a small panic attack when I went to Machu Picchu.

Oddly enough, though, airplanes don't frighten me at all.
I want to visit this place one day.

How was it? What was the cost of the trip?

I want to visit this place one day.

How was it? What was the cost of the trip?
I was in Lima because my brother was on his honeymoon and his (now ex) wife is Peruvian. So they had a 2nd reception in Peru for the family that couldn't make it to the one in the States.

The flight to Lima was like $560 at the time (this is May of 2007).
We didn't plan to go to Machu Picchu. Honestly, I was so mentally out of it, I didn't even know what it was.
My sister-in-law asked me if I wanted to go. I had a brain fart and thought it was some sort of beach. I mean, I took a red eye flight from NY direct and it was like 7 hours or something.
Two hours later she says she needs $100 from me. I'm like, for what? And them boom, it hit me what Machu Picchu was. The money was for the flight to Cusco.

So we fly to Cusco...it's about an hour flight. Really beautiful...you're overlooking the mountains and everything.
Cusco is a beautiful city. Cobblestone roads...I really liked it. You have these people on the street selling fresh foods. Some of the best bread I've ever tasted, too. Gorgeous architecture.

We did 1 day in Cusco because they have some mountains that you can hike up to and they have some other pretty cool trails.
I'm forgetting but I think one of the mountains there was like 10,000 or 12,000 feet. (Machu Picchu is something like 6,000).

On one of the hikes in Cusco they actually gave us coca leaves to chew to help with the elevation. I really was not prepared for how tired and out of breath you get from being at those elevations. You DEFINITELY feel it.

Anyway, the next day we took a train to the city of Machu Picchu. It's about 4 hours. After the first like...45 minutes...the train ride is really beautiful. You're basically going through farm land, ranches and mountains. It can get tiring after a while but I found it to be very relaxing.

I want to say that like...3 hours into the train ride, there's a stop and people get off -- I think they were the ones who signed up for a hiking expedition to Machu Picchu. They actually go through the woods..camp out...and reach the top of Machu Picchu by foot.

An hour later we get to the actual city. It has its touristy things there. People selling hats, sticks, dolls, ponchos and things like that. There are restaurants around. You can kinda haggle on the prices of some restaurants. They just want to make any money they can.

It took a while for the buses to get ready to go up the mountain and I forget how much money it cost.
It's about a 20-minute ride up the mountain from what I can remember...but I could be wrong.

What's really freaky about this goddamn ride up the mountain was...ok look....there are no guard rails on that bytch. And you can look out your window and see all the way to the river at the bottom. It was scary as hell for me. And this bus driver was going too damn fast for my taste. The bus goes up the mountain in a zig-zag pattern...and the only time you have guard rails is when the bus turns to zig-zag in the other way.

Anyway you get to the top and there's this hotel/restaurant there. There's a bar area. Then there's the pathway to walk into the actual city.
Again, no guard rails. Now I'm not sure how narrow the path is to walk into the actual city, but it felt like it was maybe 15-20 feet across. As long as you stay to your left (against the mountain) you are okay. But I'm afraid of heights and I was freaking out.

Once you're in, though, it's really beautiful. Llamas walk by you like it's nothing. Some of the pathways are narrow though, so a big guy can't go everywhere.

The views are incredible and you wonder how the hell the Spanish ever made it up there. It's really easy to see how it remained hidden for years.

** edit -- my guess is, with a good $1600 you could do a lot there.

I'm not thrilled with heights myself although I wouldn't say I'm afraid of them.

That bus ride sounds terrifying....but I still want to go. It's on my bucket list.

$1600 isn't too bad.

They've really been trying to revitalize KCK. We have Sporting KC's stadium out here. Most people go to KCMO for everything else though.
