You're still off on a tangent due to chasing a red herring. Human emotions are not universal, but math is. Music is a form of math and, therefore, universal.

That has been my point since post 320. Nothing you've posted has refuted it.

Your argument is one logical fallacy.

And yet that is not what we were discussing. At the time you hopped in the convo they were saying math is a universal LANGUAGE. Not that math was universal. You hop in, make contradictory statements that you're still trying to avoid, and then finally say "I meant music can communicate intelligence" which wasnt the topic of the original conversation that was going on. :mjlol:

So now you changing your tune to "math is universal" doesnt change a thing EXCEPT the topic. LANGUAGE friend. And you havent displayed how math (or music for that matter) is a universal LANGUAGE. When you're ready to discuss that, then we can talk. If you're saying math is simply universal well then I never disagreed or said otherwise. No matter, take care brethren. Im sure I'll see you around here again :salute:

Either way you look at it, you lost. Math is a universal language. http://www.learner.org/interactives/dailymath/language.html Read more

The thing they said, is that math was a universal language. Not simply, "universal". Just a universal language. I disagree with that sentiment and no one has displayed how thats so...

Yes I did, you just didn't agree. But that's ok. Study more mathematics if you're truly interested. You might get it; you might not. Worst case scenario is that you understand a higher level of mathematics. :manny:

The thing with music, and this is a new theory of mine, my only original thought to date, is that:

There are people in the world who don't like to eat.
There are people in the world who don't like sex.
You can find someone in the world who doesn't like anything.

But never in my life have I met anyone who didn't like music. Maybe not the same kind of music you or I like, but there is a melody or a tone that affects them on a primal level. It is the one thing that, as far as I can tell, everyone has in common. It's universal.

I've already taken higher level mathematic classes in college. What I learned didnt exemplify it as being a UNIVERSAL language.

There are people in the world who hate everything.

Quite frankly, I've never heard or met someone that didnt like to eat. Sure they may not like certain foods, but I've NEVER met someone that didnt like to eat at all.

Oh and your definition of universal in this post doesnt match the one you first brought up. You said the UNIVERSE is what you mean as universal in post 285. Now you're displaying it to be the earth.

You don't have to agree, but if you can't see how an advanced race who has seen circles before would also understand pi, then either you missed the point of those higher level classes, you're not as smart as I thought you were, or you're trolling.

I have. It exists. I expect you not to believe me. I don't expect to be able to change your mind. Even though you're obviously smart, you seem kind of closed-minded, which is both weird and a shame .

Yea, I can't say for sure that the music thing would be "universally universal" for lack of a better term. A humanoid would have to have some organ that could detect vibrations, first of all, and I'm sure if alien life does exist, that not all of them could do that. I guess it would depend on physiology. But as far as humans go, I'd say it's something we all have in common, which is extraordinary.

Nonetheless I never said that they would or wouldnt understand pi. This was about COMMUNICATION. Which you cannot use math to communicate anything other than ideas about math. Thus its not a universal language unless you'll include things like astronomy as a universal language as well.

The only thing Im closeminded to is God NOT existing. I dont think anyone could convince me of that. Anything else, I would really disagree but that is your perception.

Yea I tried to make sure we were differentiating from universal as a whole, or earth earlier. People said universe but nonetheless I cant disagree with what you stated. Even though I think things such as smiles are better examples of a universal language (in terms of earth) than music, I cant disagree. :ehh:

Maybe you couldn't, but I could.

Astronomy? Uhm... nah.

I would say "go for it" but we've already established that math is not a universal language. Therefore if you would like "go for it" if not, we'll just leave it at that.

And yes ASTRONOMY. Because others were saying that when an "alien" comes to earth, that we could show them our knowledge of math and that would be a common point we could connect with them on. Well its the same with astronomy I would assume.

Astronomy is based off math so your point is moot. Again, talk to a math professor before you go on your tangents. The rest of the people in this thread are telling you one thing, yet you think its the other way. Being stubborn to learn is a sign of weakness and stupidity.

Serious question. How old are you?

Of course it is. But like all languages, you have to understand it before you can speak it.

Why not go correct your brethren that just said it didnt work for astronomy?

And I dont need to talk to a math professor unless I want to learn math :mjlol: That has no bearing on the people that said math was THE universal language, not accurately answering the questions posed to them. Thats fine.

You're a jew right? :mjlol: The ultimate sign of stubborness is rejecting the God your ancestors worshiped.

Serious question. How old are you?

Early 20's friend. How about you?
