Worse deal than Ben Simmons :lolbron:

Although Strausberg was a much better player before signing his deal

Could’ve been one of the best pitchers to ever play the game, when Healthy he was a monster on the mound, He was just too injury prone. Scott Boras bullied the Nationals to this. No way you give that long of a deal to a player that you been load managing for his entire career.

Breh made his way to $351 Million career earnings. Pitched 200 innings twice in his career.

Definitely up there as one of the worst contracts in pro sports history.
The injuries sucked but it really stupid contract regardless. He had an incredible WS run but outside of that was a major disappointment his entire career. He came in with hype to be the one of the best pitchers we've ever seen and was never fukking close to that. Not even one of the best pitchers of his gen either. deGrom, Max, Verlander, Kershaw, etc were all better than him by a massive margin

Deals for pitchers should be topped at 3-4 years, 7 year deals are way too long and pitchers always end up blowing a tire before the deal is over.
Not just pitchers
Position players too should be capped at 5 years just like basketball
These 10 year deals these guys get are fukking stupid and basically always end poorly and these teams keep signing them anyway lol

They should lower the Free agency eligibility rule where a team has control for 7 years to 4 years. Contracts need to be topped at 5 years like the NBA. Teams will save themselves of paying a guy like Miguel Cabrera $32 million a year, he’s been a role player for the last 7 years of his career. Last productive season was 2016.

I’m all for players getting their money. But these baseball contracts rarely pan out.

All these 10yr/400+ mil contracts are insane. Just do 5/200+.

might be one of the worst contracts in sports history

7 years 245m - 8 games
I wouldn't call it one of the worst contracts ever when a guy gets hurt.
That's the risk.

A bad contract is when you give a lot of money to a player who clearly doesn't have that kind of skill and talent.

The Jason Heyward contract by the Cubs. That was bad.

The Francisco Lindor contract by the Mets. That is bad. Although Mets fans would fight me on that because Lindor has been reasonably solid. But considering he got 341 million dollars...nah. That's horrific.

Matt Kemp getting 160 million from the Dodgers was bad.

And then there was Carl Crawford getting 142 million from the Red Sox. Good lord, that was one of the worst I've ever seen.

The circumstance doesn’t negate the fact it’s a bad contract. If you take a risk and lose, you effectively made a bad decision. Not being able to find an insurance company to underwrite the contract was a sign.

I’d rather have someone underperform on a bad deal (so I can trade or buy him out), than someone with a career ending injury that only played 8 games. It’s literally wasting $245 million with nothing to show for it.
