Race or class or whatever, all of it matters to some degree, if you are talking serious Machivellian schemes in an office or whatever-- but a guideline to me is this:

most people or many people are so inherently selfish or self involved, that just being genuinely kind to someone, and not really expecting anything catches so many so far off guard, they will become your biggest fan. For the price of a cup of coffee. or offering to cover someone's whatever. Someone is getting lunch, offer to pay for theirs, if they are going out to get lunch for the group.

buy a coffee, get the next round, do so without expectation or sense of immediate ROI or pettiness about who paid for what.

ha, yeah this too, never that simple, in any setting with multiple personalities, and a hiearchial structure but in some ways you can choose what you focus on. Lot of people lose their focus by getting into office politics, all that shyt, hear it all the time from people. There's gains to be made there, but also major losses. If you keep your focus on showing up and just doing your best, people will notice.

but relationship building and politics and networking....big rewards if you can play those games.

ONE IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW IS THAT THEY 100% WILL SNITCH TO THE BOSS/MANAGER!!! Do not tell them shyt and don't let them see you doing anything you shouldn't be doing at work. Also don't tell them anything about your personal life because they will tell everyone they know, and even exaggerate the story.

I guess another small cultural thing is that if they offer you food during break, it's considered extremely disrespectful to refuse it. So just take it even if you don't want it.
