I mean, aint that how lions work?
It’s actually not. Never made sense with them thinking that in the first place saying males don’t hunt considering males are the only ones ousted from the pride and have to survive on their own for years before they take over their own pride. They clearly had to hunt and do so successfully enough without the benefit of a pride like females did.

Scientist finally realized that its not just the females that hunt, male lions in the pride actually do hunt but aren’t observed doing so nearly as much because male lions hint almost exclusively at night due to their mane being much more visible in the daylight. Obviously film crews spend the vast majority of their observations during the day time.

Something so dumb was just ran with for decades before it was debunked. Both male and female lions hunt.

absolutely, and male lions are in fact more fearsome hunters too. they bail their females out of jams all the time

I'm not an ice age prehistoric scholar, but yeah, those ideas have probably been overstated.....at a minimum.

you can kinda point to the whole idea with lions, tigers, cats even, the females aren't really different. I got that from The Ghost And The Darkness.

Title is probably clickbait, but in reality there's been a lot of studies recently showing that women hunted a lot more than was understood previously, and men gathered more than was understood previously. Most of our previous conclusions were based on a lot of modern stereotypes more than actual data.

:ufdup:Baby go and make me a T-Rex sandwich.

If it's anything like lions, then the men would still be responsible for killing the T-rex. Female lions do more of the day-to-day hunting and killing, but male lions are responsible for taking on the largest animals.

I would think males have to hunt when they are on their own, but I didn't know about how it worked in the pride. Just assumed what I saw was how it went. But thats interesting. I wonder if at night, that gives them different prey to hunt. And do the manes make them easier to spot just cause their bigger? I always thought they blended in well with their settings
