I don't think the people asking for him to take risks want him to do Oscar-worthy movies.

We want him to do a classic hard R rated action film. Something every legendary action star has going back to Clint Eastwood and as recent as Jason Statham. Statham might be the last action legend.

We want to see it because The Rock has all of the tangibles to do it. He's charismatic, big, muscular, he was a pro wrestler so he can somewhat sell the fight scenes...he's just safe.

The Rock right now is the Drake of the movie industry...the biracial, superstar who everyone likes, can make decent movies but really doesn't have any classics even though for all intents and purposes has every single tangible to so it.

I understand the industry is a different place right now, but the Rock's doe right now is long. Make a movie that isn't for the masses. Make a classic, something that will solidify your legend way beyond your career.

He'll never be spoken in the same vein as Arnold, Stallone, JCVD, Cruise, Snipes, Statham, Eastwood, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Diesel, Gibson, Lee, Reeves and so on until he does. If money is his endgame cool...but he's not even on Michael Jai White, Donnie Yen, Chow Yun Fat, Segal level to me. Hell Will Smith who he's often compared to has far superior action films. He does not have a solo film as entertaining as any of those guys and I and a bunch of hardcore movie heads will never put him amongst those ranks until he does. The only great action film he has is an ensemble classic in Fast Five.

I think Donnie Yen had IP Man, Chow Yun Fat has Hard Boiled and The Killer and A Better Tomorrow, Segal got Out for Justice, Under Siege, and Marked for death.

You can't put him on those guys levels either, he has no classics at all IMHO. Its crazy.

I might put him on Mike Jai White level, but MJW atleast has Black Dynamite as a hood classic, Rock doesn't even have that. SMH

I'm not putting Rock on any of those guys level, that's what I'm saying. Not even Michael Jai White. Michael Jai White has a slew of B level action movies that are actually great action movies...shyt I'm not even putting him on Eddie Murphy's level as far as action movies lol.

Rock should have something in his 15+ year career...nothing.

Maybe Walking Tall or Run Down...

Hobbs and Shaw looks like Fast Ten/GI Joe Retaliation. And if by chance it happens to be a good action movie, it'll probably be due to Jason's abilities.

I don't know if we are using B-movies Rock has Faster, but outside of that garbage Spawn spawn, I'd say he and Rock are equal, if not for Black Dynamite.

Eddie does have Rock . LOL Beverly Hills Cop alone.
Hell Danny Glover got him too just for Lethal Weapon.
Hell Martin has it just for Bad Boys.

also rock is almost 50 years old the time to make these type of movies was when he started making movies in his 30s, he was off to a good start with the rundown, walking tall too
its too late now

he's also hinted at running for office a few times so I doubt he will risk a career in politics and start making r rated movies

What are we calling a hard R movie? Do we just need some more blood, t*ts, and cursing? I’m pretty sure that a lot of the hard - R classics get PG13 ratings today.

Thought dude was gonna be a beast after Walking Tall & Rundown. Even Faster had the right feel. But dude has made a lot of garbage movies.

I feel like the action genre is in a tough spot - I'm not sure if there's even a movie for him to make.

It would take a Tarantino to dress up the most basic story into something memorable for him.
Action movies are always gonna be made but it’s gonna be how can they distance themselves from another movie and while trying to build a trilogy or whatever

It's more of a tone. T2 could be pg13 if released today imo.. But it doesn't feel like one. Robocop is a hard R. Die Hard is still an R and feels like one, not a safe action film with cgi blood and quick cutaways and forced corny jokes.

Then again you just can't match what the 80s and 90s delivered when it comes to action since everything is cgi and trying to appeal to the masses.
