Have you seen Ray? What has Will done that is anywhere near that role? Pursuit was his best role and he hasnt done anything that good since.

I'd say Will is more consistent than Jamie. You could argue Will hasn't done anything on the level of Ray and it'd be hard to argue that...BUT, that's one really good performance in a career that hasn't sustained that. Will has got Ali, pursuit of happyness, 6 degrees of separation, seven pounds (although i was not a fan of the movie) and that first hour of I Am Legend is incredible and it's all because of him. I don't see Jamie being able to pull something like Will did in I Am Legend

And BTW. NO ONE talks about Pursuit, Ali or Seven Pounds years after they released.

People still talk about Ray, Django and Collateral to this day.

THAT'S how great those roles were.

So we're going on what people talk about then? And that' subjective as hell because I don't know a single soul who still talks about Ray or what he did in collateral, minus this website that's it. I know more people who talk about i am legend than both of them. And of course, Mike Lowry and Ali. So what are we measuring this by? What people we know say? what people on a message board say? Or what? Cause if you want to do straw man polls, we can do that all night homie, we can pull imaginary stats out the ass until the cows come home. By that logic, Mike Lowry, Will's role on Fresh Prince, and Agent J are much better acting jobs than anything Jamie has done

Jamie Foxx by far. His performances in The Soloist and Ray some of the best performances period. Jamie literally took a role meant for Will and murked it (Django Unchained).

I voted Jamie but I can't put my finger on why...

I wanna say he's more "versatile", but what I think I mean is if I picture him playing everything from menacing villain to good guy in wrong/bad situation, I'd believe either more than I'd believe Will.

I agree with most of the posts. Its Foxx and it really isn't close. Foxx is an exceptional talent, though he isn't the "draw" that Will Smith is. Will has limited range as an actor. He cries...he acts goofy...he tries to look serious...which looks like he's about to cry. That's about it. Foxx seems to be able to morph himself into whatever character is required....and convincingly. He's got "A-list" talent.....but C-list" backing. Will is the exact opposite.

I think they're equal but thats just me
I think Jamie has taken some more challenging roles with Ray and Soloist that he's killed but he's also had some duds like those action movies he tried to pull off.
Where as I feel like Will has done great in things like Pursuit and 7 Pounds and he's mastered the action guy in BB, Independence Day, I Robot, I Am, Public Enemy. He also did well in Ali.
I think once any star gets bug enough they say they play themselves in every movie. But thats the purpose of superstars they over power the character most times.

It's interesting how acting is measured here in comparison to other artforms.

People can really coast on their best work...rather than taking in consistency, longevity, diversity etc.

The amount of threads I see "______ hasn't made a good movie in 20 years!"

But that person will still be a GOAT over actors still putting in work.

Jamie Foxx is the better actor without question.
With Will Smith no matter what role he is playing it always comes across as "Will Smith acting" while Jamie can become a character.

Just take the two high profile real people they played: Muhammad Ali and Ray Charles.

In Ali we had Will Smith doing an Ali impression.

In Ray we got Jamie Foxx becoming Ray Charles.

Hell, Jamie out acted Will in the Ali movie. His performance as Bundini Brown was miles better than what Will did as Ali.
