Will Nike ever reach its 90s level of glory again?

I was watching this video of this guy going through an old Eastbay catalog and damn near all of the Nike shoes were fire! Both the basketball shoes and the trainers. Now that I've seen this, I'll be paying attention to the upcoming retros in case they bring back any heat.

While most of their recent silhouettes just don't do it for me. I know they're probably better for performance, but in terms of fashion I find their 90s silhouettes to be much better.

The 90s gave us:

Jordan 5 through 14
Air More Uptempo
Foamposite One
Barkleys

And for trainers:
Air Max 90, 95, 97, 98 and TN
Griffeys
Air Huarache

And many others

Nope.

That was the peak of shoe design and it speaks volumes that these same shoes can garner such hype 20 years on amongst a new gen

Nike have an extensive archive but I fear that their innovation is slightly lacking

Yeah, teenagers today will still spend over 200 dollars on a shoe from the 80s. I also think their innovation is lacking these days as far as looks goes, their Air Max series has been pretty much the same shoe since 2003.

Prolly my top 3 favorite Nike's. Only drawback from shoe is that you really had to pick your feet up when hoop in in these. They were a bit heavy.

They pumped out so many good designs back then all they have to do now is slight updates and modern shoes that are inspired by those 90s designs.

Case in point:

The Air Max Plus is now the Air Vapormax Plus.

Or the Air Max 93 is now the Air Max 270.

It’s like asking can Levi’s make a better jean than the 501. Of course they can, but every design will draw inspiration from that one. Same shyt with Nike except they have so many classics to tweak.

I still much prefer the Air Max Plus to the Vapormax plus. I'm not a fan of those bubbles, it's overkill IMO. The 270 is more unique as a design and I kind of like it depending on the colorway
