The first movie theater opened in 1905. Here we are 107 years later and I think things are changing. This is something I never thought I would say. Being a long time movie fan there's nothing like watching movies on the Big Screen. Theater packed and the crowd really into it. It's a great feeling. But something happen since I was born in the 1980's. Technology is changing rapidly. People are getting their movies now on their phones and computers. Look at Video Rentals.

Remember going to rent a movie on Friday Night? Now you got Red Box's, Netflix and blockbusters closing down all over the world. Let's not forget downloading is going to be there. So what's my point? I think people are slowly moving away from watching movies on the Big Screen. Hollywood keeps upping those ticket prices to make up the difference but the fact is more and more people are saying home. Add in the even higher cost of concessions, a Family of four could end up spending close to 100 dollars going to the movies. I think we are seeing the downfall of cinema.

Let's also not forget with the recent theater shootings, more people are choosing to say away from crowded theaters. Hollywood is going to have to adapt or they will lose even more money like the music industry. Soon you will get to watch brand new movies in the confort of your home for a price. So even though it's been here for over 100 years? Do you agree that Movie Theaters are falling off? Or will people always want to watch a movie on the Big Screen.

I was talking about Blockbusters were closing cause of Redbox and Netflixs. Next the reason movies are grossing 400 Million is cause Ticket prices are through the roof. Attendances is at an ALL TIME 20 year low. You think cause these movies are grossing that people are going to watch. No they are paying 15-17 dollars a ticket for inflated 3D prices. Also when I said "You will see new movies for a price" I'm talking about giving consumers a choice to watch movies on the Big screen or at home. They were going to recently try it with Adam Sandler's new movie but Hollywood shut it down.

I remember a time when Blockbuster thought nobody could stop them, then Technology damn near destroyed their business model. I see a trend, more and more people are not going to the movies, they are finding a new way to get their entertainment.

i dont think so. I think new movies especially lend themselves to the big screen/imax. Life of Pi would have been :ld: watching it on my laptop.

On the big screen....:blessed:

Blockbuster closed due to mismanagement...They were in trouble way before Redbox, and that did not affect the industry, people have more choices, and they can order movies on Demand in their home for the same price as RENTAL from blockbuster but you didnt bring that up:ld:

Movies are booming Overseas.espeicially China:leostare:
and 98% of 3D movies are also released in 2D ..so people have a choice, dont give me people are forced bullshyt:ufdup:

and Pitch Perfect which was released ON Demand the same day as theaters, and that came out in the fall:comeon:
and IFC beeing doing it
In Theaters + On Demand - IFC Entertainment

and this has been going on since 2011....:stopitslime:
Time Warner Cable offering movies on demand same day, before theatrical releases - Yahoo! Finance

Its possible. If a plausible distribution model for new movies can be proposed that would offer the movie studios the same monetary benefits as the movie theaters, then its a plausible scenario. More than likely though, it would just be harder for smaller budget movies to get in theaters and you would end up with a landscape where only the big profit movies get in. You'd no longer have movie theaters that show 10 different movies. There'd only be 2 or 3.

Some of you are saying that people would rather go to the theater then why has Attendance gone down dramatically? Obviously people aren't going to movies as much as someone of you think they are. They are saying "The Hobbit" sold less tickets than any of the original "Lord of the Rings" films. I do agree that overseas theaters are booming though.

because more people have Cable and DVD Players and would rather wait....why do you think so many movies end up recouping or earning profit when they are released on dvd to buy or when there rights are sold for broadcast:heh:

so what if the Hobbit sold less than the trilogy..lots of movie sequels and prequels have made less than the original:ufdup:
doesnt mean the industry is in danger..blockbusters are not in fear, have you even seen whats planned on deck for the next two years:beli:
