Manning hacked them when he/she was in the military. The only thing Assange did was publish the information Manning provided.

The DoD labeling that as 'conspiring' is a slippery slope. Any foreign government can then label anyone who publishes information it deems harmful to their national security as 'conspiring'. I don't think we should get into that.

That's not what they're labelling as conspiring. They're alleging he was trying to crack a hashed password provided to him by Manning.

Actively helping someone hack into computers for documents for you to publish is very different from passively receiving and publishing documents. Hacking is not a legitimate journalistic activity.

Is that worse precedent than an alleged rapist hiding out in an embassy of a country he has no ties to for seven years to avoid arrest, extradition, and trial for a rape case after losing all of his appeals via the courts.

:francis:
I believe Assange's lawyer said he was willing to face the rape case if Sweden promised they wouldn't extradite him to the US. They said they couldn't promise that. lol

That's what the investigators are alleging.

But Army digital forensics contractor Mark Johnson, testifying in Manning’s pretrial hearing today, says that he found communications between Manning and a chat user named “Julian Assange” on Manning’s personal computer and a phone number for Assange in Iceland (for more on how Johnson found the evidence, read Kim Zetter’s piece at Wired).

New Evidence of Assange-Manning Link

You really think a hacker like Assange would create a username using his real name to chat with some who has sensitive information about the US military? :russ::dead:

I'm only telling you that the indictment is not for simply publishing documents, it's for hacking which isn't legitimate journalism.

I don't know if he's guilty or not, we'll see.
