Why were black men dressing and acting so gay in the 80s?

Like said most this shyt came from the older trends & were picked & used by artists & entertainers to stand out. Like when Busta cut his hair & did a regular ass video. He said he was doing so much wildish shyt peopled weren't surpised & shyt no more so the best way to grab back attention was to just look regular & people were really shook.

People in my hood weren't wearing that shyt. People all adopted the Urban look in my area.

The average black man wasn't dressing like that back in the day. That was entertainers and they really only did that when performing or for album shoots, promo shoots, etc.

Well, all black people are not from the hood and though regular black men weren’t all out totally androgynous, there were some fashion trends that were adopted by all men (not just back men), in the 80’s at least, that we would question today.

My father is the most masculine guy I know, was an all American in high-school; captain of the football team, wrestler, and played ball. Total jock. p*ssy hound. But we got pictures of him dressed in these shyts.....

(Although my dad was bald, mad nikkas was looking like this because they were rocking Jheri curls and mullets.)

because that was the style, nobody was calling that GAY back then, didn't even cross peoples minds

hell, women use to wear big ass shoulder pads in their clothes - I guess to make them look more masculine and powerful(?)

like i said before, peoples brains didn't work like they do now, we connect sexuality to everything people do - even I do it, but it just wasn't like that then

george michael said that nobody thought he was gay during the 80's in his WHAM! days - and I believe him

Yeah I tend to go by personal experience as Black in the hood then hit media but I think other brehs already said most what I was gonna say so I didn't bother. I don't really think of white people trends right away, lol. But yeah them shirts weren't considered gay & were worn by buff dudes like athletes, body builder, buff street brehs, etc. I didn't really see skinny brehs with no abs or big arms in those, lol, but white people rocked em a lot.

nikkas weren’t going to the local Food Lion dressed like that in the 80’s though lol. More than likely you were dressed like Carlton Banks or Run DMC. The problem now is non celebrities are taking cues from the celebrities and are dressing like them in real life. Imagine what would happen if one popular rapper NOW dress like someone in the 80’s... nikkas would be at the concerts showing out lol

Edit: or kids were also dressed more than likely like New Edition would back then

Oh yeah, I agree.

You know what, I forgot about this too. My grandmother and two of her sisters were black corporate executives in the 80’s. They were typically dressed like this.

I’m not sure if he actually indulged, but George Michael could have gotten as much p*ssy as Prince. My mother and her all black friends used to go crazy over him. Him and Boy George.

The 80’s was really the GOAT period.:wow:
