In watching a lot of '70s/early-'80s wrestling, I get why he was a thing in that time... he just wasn't a good fit for the era most of us started watching in. Guys like Valentine, Muraco, Patera were becoming old school by the time we were into Savage, Warrior, Sting, Bret, Perfect, etc... we were watching them in the late-'80s as they were getting older and slower. You had to be better promo-wise, faster in the ring, more dynamic- they and their style of wrestling were aging out by then.
