i dont think herman will succeed in austin. its just too much delusion amongst boosters and athletes are too entitled.

he will be out of austin in two years and be back in columbus doing what he does best calling plays and helping us get championships.

he will then takeover when urban retires.

Herman will fix a lot of the issues you addressed. Several NFL scouts have gone on the record that he runs the most physical practices in the country. This program needs it but it needs it year after year after year. Just doing it for one offseason isn't enough. Combine that with better recruiting and a very good S&C program and we should be fine. But we need better results in the trenches. I'd like to hire a dline rainmaker for the 10th assistant spot.
That's not good for player development. You might get the most out of those guys in college which to some might be the only thing that matters, but I've seen so many guy come from those type of programs and be gassed out when they get to he NFL.

Although I hate to admit such, Im actually pretty sure Herman will get them back in the mix soon.

Theyve sucked going on 9-10 straight seasons now, yet They get a top 3-5 recruiting class every yr just based off their name. If OU had that, we'd prob be Bama level rt now. But at some point all that talent won't go to waste as it has been. Just the law of averages.

OU got a good class tho so I'm happy. But Mike Stoops still has a job, so that cancels out whatever talent we get :francis:

Always felt like they don't recruit Dallas hard enough. Seems like the top players in DFW either end up at OU/Oklahoma State or somewhere in the Big 10 or SEC.

Too many athletes in North/North Central Texas to just let walk. Oklahoma stays on top in part because of their recruiting there.

Hour and a half ride away from Dallas. Logistically, they are equal miles away from Dallas as Austin is to the city.

Exactly....that's why it's crazy OU seems to win those recruiting battles so much more. Doesn't feel as even as you'd expect.

Kinda makes sense though. A breh growing up in big city Dallas, or even Houston is not going to see Austin as a step up. Some might prefer fewer distractions......maybe.

I still Think they should've given Charlie one more year but it's whatever.

:ehh: SJU actually suffers from the same exact problems as Texas. The problem with telling a former power that it needs to change is that their alumni ain't trying to hear it. You can't tell a millionaire alumnus who went to that university that they're no longer elite. It's like saying their university is not elite, nobody wants to hear it even though it's true.

:manny: It may hurt in the short run, but sometimes you may have to recruit like Iowa if you ever want to get back to being like Texas.

For a black as head coach at a school like Texas Charlie Strong had to have a top QB in play at least by year two of his campaign imo. Some wins and good QB play would've given him some leeway and time to implement the other things he wanted to do for the program. We all knew those old moneyed whites were going to have him on a short leash:francis:

UT prioritizes Houston and has done so for a good part of the last 20 years. They win some battles with ou in Dallas tho. Make no mistake, Texas still get first dibs up there in DFW because it still is in Texas.
